22 mm was fine for the top one, in a cut piece of pipe, jubilee clip hasn't leaked once.
I would get the dump valve dump plug for the bottom tee pipe only cost a fiver, i replaced that pipe in my setup with one from a Audi Coupe standard, Part Number 893 121 055B which cost £19.62 from VAG Parts.
I must be the only one on here who paid someone to fit a new one!!!
I sleep at night with the satisfaction that my S2 is just as Audi intended.
No your not the only one, when i bought mine the aux rad had the fins hanging down around the timing belts so before i found out just how much a main dealer knows about our cars i got them to replace it (also paid way too much for them to replace the belts). They also replaced the coil packs to stop the cut out on WOT and no it didn't stop until i read about similar on this site and s2 central - changed lamda problem solved
Excellent. Got the distinctly knackered aux rad off the car this morning. Took me about 1 1/2 hours from start to finish, including bleeding off the main rad. Put 3 litres of antifreeze back in the system, should be enough I guess - the volume of the coolant system is now considerably reduced with the rad removed?
Took it for a 20min circulation round some stop-start traffic, and a quick blat down the A316. Temp reading on the coolant temp gauge stays one notch above 90 when in stop-start, and dropped to one notch below 90 when moving at pace. Will this ok, given that the air temps are fairly low now? Bear in mind I've got 3B Aircon installed too... I cut the aux rad pipes right back when I bunged them, so if I need to put it back in I'll have to get all new hoses!
Thanks to Lee for the bungs, and to the forum for its sageworthy advice!
Ex S2 owner, now running around in an A4 Avant quattro...
Mine is 3 notches below 90 when at m-way speeds or outside temp cold, 2 notches after giving it some, and doesn't go over 90 except for a tiny sliver when fan cutting in. Think it's cause my air con rad is gone, plus my old rad had a bit of a leak.
Should think yours is fine considering there's a rad blocking airflow to it.
