    Car Just Stopped

On my way to work yesterday when the car just cut out managed to pull of the road. Tried to start it no joy after a few minutes i noticed that when you turned the key there was no buzzing sound from the fuel pump and a clicking sound from under my right foot, it done this once before about four months ago am i right in thinking the fuel relay is playing up? Managed to get it going again and got to work and home again no problem.

Remember the fuel pump relay will only trigger when the engine is turned over at a certain speed. Here is a good little write up about fitting an LED to the relay for such times as the engine doesnt start.

Thanks for that, after reading the thread sounds like it could be a few things so no need to rush out yet and buy new relay or pump. I will get vag com from a m8 and see if it picks anything up.

Some of the things that it could be include:

        1. Dieing fuel pump - you might want to consider replacing it - http://12v.org/urs/Fuel%20Pump%20Tes...eduresRev3.pdf
        2. Dodgy fuel pump relay - not locking on - http://forums.quattroworld.com/s4s6/msgs/22583.phtml
        3. Flakey cam position sensor - http://forums.quattroworld.com/s4s6/msgs/22580.phtml
        4. Thermal fuse feeding the injectors or coils -Click here for photo story

I changed fuses on mine last week to try the cure
Car ran fine before until heaters pointed at feet
Thinking extra heat and poor connections in thermal fuse tripped it
Car started fine straight after stopping, fuses warm to the touch

Could you hear the fuel pump buzzing when you turned on ignition after stopping and any clicking from the fuse box area. Started after about 10 mins and as been running ok i will be changing the fuses you mentioned.

just a heads up: It's not the fuel pump you hear when you turn ignition, its the auxiliary water pump/after run pump. It runs for a couple of second. Not sure why it dose this but it dose this

I thought it was the fuel pump, as i read S2centrals thread on what to look for when buying an S2 and it stated that all you should be able to hear is the buzzing of the fuel pump which is located at the rear of the car. My other coupe also has the buzzing sound from the rear of the car which i thought was the fuel pump so now im confused .

The fuel pump does not activate on the 2.2T I5 engines until the ECU sees at least 13 rpm.
It definitely does not activate when you turn the ignition on.
