this is from a 1.8T 4cyl. and the thought is that for the 4cyl that turbo is lazy.
Who runs a GTX3071 then?

I have a GT3071R Jarno, a friend has a gtx3071r but on a 1jz supra and it spools pretty quick but the flow isnt like garrett say. they say it spools like a turbo under 2871r (TRUE) and flows like a 3076r(FALSE) it flows the same realistically but youll pick up spool sooner like 2 maybe 300 rpms sooner. I grab full boost by 3000's since im ported a bit. but youd grab it low 3000's.Comment

Should be interesting. Not sure how much better these are compared to the old school gt30r. On paper they should be much better but will be good to see real numbers.

I love the 3071/3076's but once turbo I would love to trade for and dab into is the precision 5857...I have heard great think about this turbo spool is godlike in addition to flowing like a 3076. I want to compare spool though to a GTX3076 and the precision 5857.
Anyone moved from 30r sized to 35r size what kind of spool additions are we tacking on? 500rpms?

Don't believe what you hear in regards to spool 5857 is very close to the equivalent garrett ones. For the GT35 again it depends as those who fit it make a lot of changes to suit the upper rev range and therefore spool and lag is not an issue to them.I love the 3071/3076's but once turbo I would love to trade for and dab into is the precision 5857...I have heard great think about this turbo spool is godlike in addition to flowing like a 3076. Mid range lag and up to 500hp is nowadays doable with a good head porting and even a 63ar hotside sacrificing a few horses for the reduction in lag.Comment

From what I have read once they fixed the seals issue they were having the new revision is not only cheaper than the gtx3071/3076 its flowing more like a 35, yet spooling a tad after the 30r.
Take Jim Greens car
So here we go. Hank, Javad and I have been brewing this up for a few months and it finally came together on Thursday 5/27/2010. The goal: Compare the new billet wheels on the HTA turbos to there traditional counterparts. There is a lot of speculation out there, lots of data on Evo's, but...
The 5857 if it were more reliable would definetly be my next turbo, i just cannot afford down time.
He made, "PTE5857 472 WHP, 402 ft-lbs, at 27-28 PSI on 91 pump gas"
Thats darn good. Its hard evidence to refute

Are you sure its whp and not just hp?
Sorry its always confusing when it comes to dyno numbers coming from the USA.
I'm not aware if the fix of the seals is proper etc. I'm sure it is but on that graph you have a made torque at around 4500 which seems similar to a GT3076 with 0.83ar and similar to a GTX3076. From what I have seen and read I don't see much difference on spool. Perhaps they could be making a bit more power I guessComment

Its definetly WHP, quoted and that was on a DYNO they'll spit out read numbers @ the wheels.
I love the smaller 30r sized garretts but i feel the 35r isnt the best turbo for the $$$ or that size wheel.
I would look to Holset hx35 or Super40 @ a much lower price range plus the ability to spool decently quick and never run out of room all the way PAST redline. Thats the beauty of holsets add some HIrate springs and lightweight lifters new oil pump strong valves and ofcourse (7a CAMS, which I NEED) and then you can juice a holset from 3500-8000 making 30psi. Its a lovely turbo cant wait to get my hands on one. I do enjoy building boost pre 2000's on the 3071r but up top its all motor. Ahaha soon a port and polish to COME!

Is your head stock or ported? Also i think e85 really helps with the lag more concentrated power during combustion. the 3071r is a fantastic little turbo dont get me wrong...but its fantastic at being LITTLE. I have read nothing but great about the super40. Does your build have HO manifold like a rs2 or tubular or are you stock, that may have helped with the flowing of the hotside of the turbo. Im sorry to see your experience with the super40 go so bad i really want to run one for a 500hpAWHP urs4 without throwing to much timing, to keep it super reliable. One turbo for sure i want to try is the ProComp snails those triple ball bearing beast are crazy!
