    those are pretty good temp numbers. Similar to my large front mount intercooler

      Of course, why not just get the angle grinder out to a 30 year old car or just mount that massive truck intercooler right on the front, no one will notice and it will look great!

      I am gratefull that darren came up with this sensible idea, which i copied on my car and I have been very happy with

        I didn't mean it that way if your comment was heading my way. I have a different car and didn't have to cut anything. I am just comparing the efficiency only.

          Have to admit, wish I would have seen this thread before work had been done on mine. I don't actually mind the fact the IC is visible from the front so it's obvious something is going on,but would have so preferred if the car looked totally stock.

            Daren, what are the core sizes (roughly) of the intercoolers?
            I have 924 turbo I am going to use ( core size 450x130x130mm) and was going to add one more intercooler (450x200x50mm).

              I have a solution for my intercooler that might annoy some people due to cutting some metal work but im hoping to keep the car looking totally stock from the outside unlike my car was looking when i first put the huge front mount and cut n shut bumper on. I like the twintercooler setup though and i might still run an intercooler where the radiator is if the inlet temps arnt low enough for my liking.

                Sorry, no, just a general comment. I would like a large front mount, but I think the the twin setup is a good compromise....

                  If you want more power, you need more air mass in the engine, this allows you to inject more fuel.

                  The ideal gas law states: PV=nRT or PV=mRspecT
                  Where P= pressure in Pa
                  V = Volume in M^3
                  m= air mass in kg
                  Rspec = Specific gas constant = 287 J kg^-1 K^-1 for dry air
                  T = temperature in K

                  The 7 degrees difference in peak temperature mentioned here:

                  With the twin setup it cruises at 23 degrees and raises to a peek of 27 at 2bar at an ambient of 19 degrees.

                  I also now run a .82 hot side as the .6 was to aggressive so in theory I have added lag..
                  will result in a different mass of air entering the cylinders, as volume and pressure will stay constant.

                  Decreasing peak temperature from 34 with 1 intercooler to 27 with one will give
                  an increase of about 2,3 percent of mass entering the cylinders, so peak power will also increase with about 2,3 percent or about 5 hp on a 200 hp engine.
                  Probably not something you will notice, but definitely a significant increase.

                  This is also the reason why your S2 feels a lot faster in winter than in summer. A temperature change from 40 degrees (i.e. 30 degrees ambient +10 for compression and intercooling) to 0 degrees (i.e. outside temp. of -10) will result in about 14 percent of extra mass entering the cylinders, i.e. an increase of power of about 30 hp on a 200 hp engine.

                  Hope this helps

                    I believe there are other benefits which that equation doesnt account for. Cooler air entering the engine means you can (or the ECU will) either 1) advance the timing or 2)allow more boost without getting knock.

                      Correct, there are a lot of parameters which are effected by temperature\intercooling, also others than the two you mention, but the extra air mass you will be able to get in the engine accounts by far for the largest part of the extra power it will deliver.
                      Advancing timing has a much smaller effect, and you won't get more boost than programmed in the ecu, if it is programmed at 2 bar, it will stay at 2 bar. You will probably have 2 bar over a wider rev range if the ECU was limiting pressure due to knock, but this is probably not at peak power output.
