Is it the fuel Pump or a Boost Leak ?

Been revelling in the reliability of my urS6, and thanking my lucky stars when reading other members posts about engine faults.

Unfortunately my time has come, while accelerating away from pulling out at T junction there was a slight jerk, a bit like when you're walking quickly and one foot slips on a wet leaf.

So drove at the same speed as the rest of the traffic, and found a few minutes later on the motorway that when floored while it tries to do it's best to respond, and rev and produces boost, but not freely, it is like it is getting choked for petrol, as if the pump is starting to fail ? Fuel filter is fresh.

Not sure if this is the way a pump fails, as on my Avant it stopped almost instantly with no warning, and we had to change lane and coast to a halt.

Haven't suffered a boost leak before, so don't know what the symptoms are when one does, can't hear any obvious whoosing sounds, but hard to hear on the motorway, but the car doesn't do any hard cut like a rev limiter.

As I say, at say 4k rpm it's hesitating a bit and is not reving out cleanly and easily to the rev limiter, as it normally does / can do whenever the occassion demands it.

Will eventually show max level of boost, but not as energetic as normal, and I don't feel happy forcing it to perform.

    I don't have vag-com.

    Any comments or questions appreciated.

    Thanks.

Could be the first signs of coil failure.

To eliminate the fuel pump issue, change it.

Dave, I think you may be right. It's about 150k miles, so well past your 100k miles borrowed time threshold.

Any links for testing the coils ?

          Pretty fresh.

Can't believe it will be that. But will change it after I change the fuel pump.

Yup, 150 k milkes is living on borrowed time. Time for a fresh pump anyway. Learn from my mistakes and BTDT's.

Coil testing procedures are shown here: http://forums.quattroworld.com/s4s6/msgs/22611.phtml

Which is linked out of the Ignition Coil label in this AAN Engine Bay Device map (live label hyperlinks):

No it was something called worn out spark plugs.

Checked the spark plugs and the colour was fine, but the little tips coming out of the white ceramic were worn away, and the gap was quite big.

Put in some old Audi Bosch spark plugs from my garage, and the car is boosting again like a good thing.

This car just soaks up all everyting that is thrown at it. I just change the oil and the filter regularly, but "forgot" to do the plugs.

All good now, until next time.

              Thanks for the input.
