    What's up

Coming home from work last night when approaching a junction i dipped the clutch and the cars headlight dimmed the rev counter dropped to 200 and back to normal when i carried on this happened a few more times until i got home. Any ideas what the problem is.

Also what is the function of the piston type thingy on the end of the Im and is it really needed the car revs high and then drops to normal only for a second, when slowing down and coming to a stop.

So do i need a new one or are these repairable seem to remember a post somewhere on here with ref to them leaking. Also would this Isv also cause the car to just cut out and then start a few mins later and perform as normal. As this engine idle thing as started a couple of days later wondering if this could be connected in some way?

Clean it out with carb cleaner, I'll be doing mine this weekend, as my idle is a little lumpy at the moment.

They can leak a bit from the plug end, some have used epoxy to seal them up. That level of leak is unlikely to be your issue though.

Have you run VAG com on the car? If not then get a £5 lead and £5 "2x2" adapter off ebay and plug it in - it's invaluable when fault finding.

Spray the ISV out with carb cleaner until it runs out clean. Then leave it for 15 minutes in a warm spot for all the solvents to evaporate. The spray some GT85 up inside, as it needs some lubrication for the moving parts

Right i have taken a code reading from the car the reader used was a Autotel item for vag cars don't know if they are any good but the only code it threw up was 00561 mixture adaptation, Kwp1281 static adaptation limit mu1 not exceeded. Sounds like fuel to me but i don't know what the codes mean I will be investing in a proper Ross tech system it makes sense as i have 5 audi's at the mo. Anyone throw some light on this plse.

Ah, the infamous 561 code... I just had this the other day and most S2s will have had this at one time or another. I'm afraid that code may best be described as a result rather than a cause

561 tends to indicate an air leak, fuel pressure issue, MAF issue or lambda issue, amongst other things. There's an epic thread about it on the home page at the moment but that will confuse you more than it'll help...

Will a vag-com pick up the same code and give more detail or will i have to become a sherlock homes.

No detail with that one, not in a way that will say to replace this or clean that... There are 4 ways that the code is triggered, indicated by the additional detail of the code. It's basically saying that the fuel trim is outside of the set limits, but how it ends up getting there is the difficult bit to find

In terms of your issue described above, I'd say that the this code doesn't really point to anything specific...

Usual fault finding service resumes I'm afraid.
