    Anyone use a KX400 or KX500 turbo?

Was looking at the KX500 and found this. Any experience or thoughts?

It´s just about the same as a K26/27 with 360 bearing. quite laggy.

Doesn't sound too promising if it's laggy...

What do you call laggy? The people I've spoken about the K26/27 with 360 bearing or very happy with it.

For the 10% increase in power over a stock RS2 turbo, I'd want it to be very close in terms of response. For something that adds 100bhp, it's easier to acept lag but for 30-40, it's not so much...

After.used for a long time both setups I'd never use again RS2 turbo once I tried the 26/27

If you see it laggy that means you're in the wrong gear.

I would have to agree. For any extra lag you just need to be in the right gear. The difference in power output is night and day. 26/27 over the RS2 any day unless you're happy with sub 400 output.

Well my incagelb coupé had a Dahlbäck 370bhp kit on it and that was a 26/27 turbo wit IIRC nr6 Hotside, the S2 i have now has a Dahlbäck/MTM 340bhp kit on it with an RS2 turbo. The one i have now is less laggy... But yeah, there is quite a difference in punch WHEN you get your boost up. Don´t know the boost of my current setup but the 26/27 i had 1,9 bar peak that dropped to 1,7-1,8 bar.

Boost started to build at around 3400 IIRC with the 26/27 don´t know where full boost was as it was quite some years ago.

TBH, at ~£1400, it's a sever chunk of wedge compared to other options but was interested, as I know the KX500 has been used by a few with some strong numbers.

Its what i run on mine now... and it's a ****ing impressive turbo!

Mine produces 1.6 bar up to 4k (else surge) then 2.2 to 6, falling to 2 till red bar. I certainly wouldn't call it laggy.

The k26/27 seems like a great idea at £600, but that's if you can get hold of one, it's a rebuilt with no form or warranty (which was important to me after the hassle i had) and nigh impossible to find replacement parts to get it fixed back up at a later stage without costing the same as just getting a kx500 anyway.

Cheers Andy, I've been following your thread and a project closer to home

I'm hoping to try a spare RS2 turbo to see if that cures my problems and take it from there...

I've taken a few people out for a spin in mine, ask Greg what he thought

Steve got his kx500 after i had positive results from mine.

Will ran a kx500 in his car before turning it into an all-out drag car, and had it at the MRC dyno meet the other year and produced some decent results.

My problem with the k26/27 is that i have one knackered after my engine problems having done barely 1000 miles, and i ended up getting the kx500 because it was a) new and b) possible to get hold of. The k26/27 needs some replacement parts, and last time i spoke to Richard it wasn't possible to get them, or certainly in the immediate future.

Well, I'm delighted to add another very positive vote for K26/27. My car hauls!
I have no idea how much power it produces but totally impressed over OEM RS2 and RS2 hybrid. Keeps pulling hard to the red line. Big thanks to Rich and Dmitri!

Thumbs up for K26/27, even in a heavy 1.7 tonne car
