Bypass valve - APR-R1 Vs Turbosmart Kompact

Ok so for my new engine I think I have narrowed the choice for the bypass valve to between the APR-R1 or the Turbosmart Kompact.

Anyone have any thoughts as to which has better build quality / better reliability?
I don't really care about noise I just want it to work properly - on a permanent basis
Having said that some adjustability would be nice, as I do like a bit of flutter at low boost

      710n

R1 seems to be diaphragm based as well, so that should work too.

      AVOID piston DV's.

I have read a lot of reports of the 710N not lasting more than a few months, so they are out for me. I want reliability.

What is your thinking behind your preference towards the diaphragm based valves Dmitri? Why do you say to avoid piston type valves?

Curious as to where you read that? Never had a 710N fail.
What people say on the internet must be true though. You ever considered that they are doing something wrong on their car?

          OK.

You can install the diaphragm based valve the other way around and the boost will help push it closed. That way you can use a softer spring.
Piston based valves if you install them the other way around are going to leak, and you need to use stiffer springs...

I searched the forum. Of course everything on the internet is true, I know that already I read it online and saw it on Fox news

I assume the benefit of a looser spring is the valve opening at a lesser boost level and opening more rapidly so being more efficient? So you would suggest a 710N fitted reversed as the best option?

710N should be fitted so that boost pushes from the side (like standard).
I think for the price that the R1 costs you can buy a supply of 710N's to last you a life time...

Really, I have very good experiences with them and I use them on everything below GT35R level and have nothing but good things to say about them.
If they were consistently failing for someone in a few months, it probably means that the valve was almost touching the exhaust ...

                Good info, thanks
Certainly the 710N can't be beaten on price or availability

I hav the R1 with no issues, got it a couple of years ago. Its nice and neat and with no bling. There does seems to be some marketing hyperbole surrounding it though.

The reason I went for it at the time was that I was told standard ones would explode if you look at them

In retrospect, it cost quite a lot for what it is (£140?)

My biggest mistake was going for a "heavy duty N75" over standard. Im am conviced that this is one of the reasons that my car did not boost very well for a long time.

I've had an APR R1 for a while now and had no issues with it. The main reason I wanted it was because it's so quiet and unlike the pistons type ones I've had, you don't have to keep stripping and greasing it to stop it sticking.

I've run a Forge 007 for 6 years or so. Boost hose on the side, no sticking but haven't checked for leaks recently. If I was buying one now, I'd be looking at APR for fit and forget. I do carry a 710N in the glovebox though.
