    Warm Start Problem?

Just recently my S2 has had the following problem:

When warm having been left for an hour or so, the engine will turn over start and then stall. It cranks fine but only starts with the use of the throttle, it wont' idle properly without help but seems fine once it has been running for 30 seconds.

Is this the start of something worse? Anyone BTDT?

Starts from cold perfectly, although sometimes it will "hunt" for ten or twenty seconds before settling into a smooth idle.

    Any ideas appreciated....

    Cheers,

    Steve.

Sounds like its prob worth checking out the ISV... give it a clean out with some carb cleaner.

I have almost the same problem, it starts fine when it is cold or hot but after a cooling down period of 1 a 2 hours it is hard to start. I already did the following things:
        -cleaning MAF
        -replacing lambda
        -replacing spark plugs
        -cleaning ISV
        -replacing fuel filter
But I still have the problem, last week I bought second hand injectors. Because the problem might occure due to leaking injectors, I hope, when I replace the injectors the problem will finaly be solved.

What does the hallsender sensor do?

i had this on 7a engine and it was something to do with the senser which counts the peg on the fly wheel, it looks like an abs sensor, theres two of them together on the right hand side (looking from the front) might be worth a look?

Hall sender is camshaft position sender: located behind camshaft pulley on ABY/ADU.

I read about the hall sensor on sjm, pretty interesting site. When the hall sensor fails or is not working correct can this cause the following problems:

              - strange starting when turning the key.
              - strange shutting down of the engine, when the ignition is turned off. (my car shakes, so now and then)
              - instable idle.
              - hard to start after a cooling down periode of 1 a 2 hours.

              thanks,

              Erik

When you say hard to start? Mine is seems to be okay if you use some throttle, but no good without throttle. It will catch straight away but not idle.(It just dies) I don't think this would be position sensor as it fires correctly but doesn't idle. It seemed more like fuel, but I am no expert on this car.

Please keep the suggestions coming and I will keep an eye on it. It has only done it twice, so I didn't take a lot of notice!

                Cheers,

                Steve.

Mine really starts strange and also shut down strange. It sounds like not all cylinders are started on the same time, the same with shutting down. the car also shakes a bit when turned off.

I don't think I ever solved this problem and to be honest i can't remember it!

My car has had full services since then and hasn't had the problem again in the last few years...

                        Sorry
