VCDS / Vagcom - both cars with errors!

Hi peeps, been a while since I plugged VCDS in because the B3 was away being looked at for this continual intermittent idle issue and power loss. Its been away had a full inspection of the airways, all hoses and pipes are 100%, the MAF has been swapped, this is the second throttle body, alignment done, wiring checked, still got the issue, and fault codes...

    Code:
    Thursday, 28 March 2013, 17:54:49:4907

    VCDS-Lite Version: Release 1.1

    Control Module Part Number: 8D0 907 557 T

      Component and/or Version: 1.8L R4/5VT MOTR HS D06

               Software Coding: 04001

                Work Shop Code: WSC 00000

                          VCID: 41F5D52C5887

    3 Faults Found:

    01165 - Throttle Body Control Module (J338)

            17-10 - Control Difference - Intermittent

17953 - Throttle Valve Controller: Malfunction

            P1545 - 35-10 - - - Intermittent

    00561 - Mixture Adaptation

14-10 - Adaptation Limit (Add) Exceeded - Intermittent
So for sh*ts and giggles, I plugged the dagdag in and got this:

    Thursday, 28 March 2013, 18:00:49:4907

    VCDS-Lite Version: Release 1.1

Control Module Part Number: 028 906 021 AP

    Component and/or Version: 1,9l R4 EDC SG D31

    Software Coding: 00000

    Work Shop Code: WSC 00000

    VCID: 5DCD095CC43F

    1 Fault Found:

    00575 - Intake Manifold Pressure

    17-10 - Control Difference - Intermittent
    Any VCDS experts out there?

I would say the problem showing on your 80 will be a split or holed vacuum pipe.very common on passats and a4 tdis i have worked on

I havent been all along the TDI hoses yet, but it feels like it hits a wall at 3000rpm in 4th and 2500rpm in 5th - air is obviously escaping somewhere, i'll check that out over easter mate, thanks

For the 1.8t, it is pointing to a TB fault, but as you have tried another one I would maybe start looking at the things that could cause the same faults, like a possible wiring fault.

Thing is, Martin said he had been all over the wiring... I might just have to get another throttle body. At this rate it might be cheaper to pick up a worked AEB engine and use it for parts...

I would just replace all of them, with them being braided you cant tell where the holes are quite often

problem is a few weeks or months down the line other splits and holes appear elsewhere if the vac pipes are all original, had an a4 tdi come back to me about 6 times in one year with this type of thing.

                    ffs...

Right, I had Sam's throttle body off him - which is a working unit of a manual AEB without cruise control (same as the donor car for this engine), plugged it all up, cleared the codes and ran an adaptation. Drove to MK for the meet and on the way, the car felt laggy and jerky, not smooth at all - but idles fine now.

Plugged in VCDS, and this is the error...

Anyone have any ideas now... I can see this resulting in a crowbar anger attack at this rate!!!

Right, I solved the diesel one by replacing a load of vac hoses and the n75 - running smooth and with full boost now! Surprisingly eager and flexible for a 90bhp dagdag

Anyone have any fresh ideas for the 1.8T?

Try a third throttle body is all I can say.

                            Log the throttle position.

                            It's either comparing idle set point with rpm, and coming up with the fault because it is unable to adjust the RPM using the throttle;
Or it is comparing throttle position set point against actual throttle position and not being able to reach set point.

In the first case, there can be lots of other things wrong - hell, a bad fuel pump could cause it.
In the second case, it has to be either the throttle or wiring to it.

thanks mate, good pointers to start with - it for the T28, 044, C20LET injectors and Cast manifold now anyway, so its going to get a good going over all wiring and bits anyway.

I also replaced the inlet sensor post throttle body the other day as well as a precaution...
