    Funny sound!

After accelerating no matter how hard, I used to get a sound from the engine like an intake of breath, not too dissimilar to the sound a bloke makes when he sees another bloke get kicked in the nuts!

    :eek2:

Now I get a kind of fluttering sound.

    Any suggestions?
    Cheers

It does feel slightly sluggish after I change gear but it still has a fair bit of pulling power.

        Dave,

Did you get this sound after every gear change or bout of heavy acceleration? If so, it sounds like it could be the dump valve.
If you have one of the aftermarket variety fitted, they do have an audible 'whoosh' when you take your foot of the gas. It would also explain the lack of immediate power after each gear change.

Does sound like a non-recirculating dump valve (TBV) or a faulty recirculating one. The latter gives best performance in my view for three reasons :

          1. It keeps the cold side of the turbo spinning between gear changes at full chat

          2. It doesn't waste all that nicely metered air that was drawn past the MAF

          3. It doesn't sound twee (to me anyhoo)

Suggest you leak-test the TBV and/or buy a new one - the standard Bosch jobbie is cheap and effective (but doesn't last as long or look as shiny as an aftermarket one)

          Cheers,
