    RS2 motor mounts

I am on the hunt for a set of motor mounts for the RS A and have found out that that the left side with A/C (8A0 199 382) is NLA from Audi. So what are my alternatives? Keep in mind I want to stay with something that looks O.E.

    Are these available aftermarket? Lemförder?

My car has A/C so can I run one from another application there and get away with it? Non A/C version?

Can I use two of the right side?

I've been looking at the 034 version "street density" mount. Anyone here have experience with those?

I've driven one car with the street density mounts and didnt like them at all, too much unnecessary vibration and harshness. Note there are two versions of the mounts, S2/RS2 applications have different bolt hole spacing however the mounts themselves are comprised of two parts crimped together, so if you can source new mounts for an 80/90/coupe application it may be possible to change over the base plate. You would really need to see them side by side to be sure.

Attached are two pics, 034 street density (CQ fitment), and stock ABY mount to give you an idea how the too halfs join together. I've been told early 034 mounts were prone to separating, which looks feasable on my mount as its not crimped as well as the OE mount. Easily fixed if you can weld alloy.

For your car fit OE mounts, i wouldnt go near the 034 ones.

I have an AC equipped ABY and fitted the "non" AC engine mount. I can't feel any difference...

I really didn't want to go that route. Thank you for sharing your real world experiences with them.

I was wondering about that. How much different can they be?

It looks like they only do the right side (8A0 199 382 D) for cars with A/C.....and it is up to be discontinued.

Brings to mind another question.....are these side specific? Could I use to right hand side mounts? What's the difference?

IIRC they are not symmetrical, so no, you can't use them on the "wrong" side....

                  Tom,

I have the 034 street density mounts fitted to my daily driver S2 Avant on the engine and the gearbox, and I don't like them, and so I've bought three new factory ones from the dealer, not cheap, and like found that of the four one of the engine mounts is NLA. So very interested to see how you get around this latest hurdle.

I want to change the mounts back to oem, as even though they're listed as street density, compared to oem ones, they are more like a track ones, in that they introduce too much "solidity" / vibration to the car. IMO they are not nice on any "normal" daily driver B4, and certainly not for your car, which you do not want to be tacked focused.

Basically the four mounts introduce too much noise / vibration / harshness to the car.

A case of more is less.

                  HTH.

Keep the photos coming for all of us.

                  Kind regards.

No luck with Pete. He told me he cannot get either mount.

                        Hi Tom,

Maybe get a group buy list together and get in touch with Audi Tradition?

                        Cheers,

At this stage in the game I wish to get the engine and gearbox in the car so I can commence the fabrication of my fuel lines, installing the propshaft/rear diff/axles, etc. Can I mount a right side mount on the left side? Is one side taller or shorter than the other? Is there any physical difference to these that would prevent me mounting a right mount on the left? Certainly the durometer of the rubber isn’t different between the sides. If it is, I couldn’t imagine that anyone would ever feel the difference. We are dealing with Germans here though, so who knows.

I wonder if they were always the same, except for part numbers, and Audi just decided to NLA one side. If so, they should have updated ETKA to reflect the change. Just a theory.

I will pester Audi Tradition about it in the not so distant future about this.

When I ordered my last set of engine mounts, I got two of one side. I had to transfer the bolts across on to the radiator side mount. As you can see the original has serrations that hold the shoulder of the bolt. Thats the only difference I could find, apart from maybe the stiffness of the rubber as you mention, but that could be a myth

Perfect. I can't thank you enough! It makes perfect sense now that I look at your pictures. I had forgotten that the bolts were fixed on the body for the mount on the turbo side, as seen in the pic below.
