    Long life oil?

Hey guys, I picked up some oil for my vw golf tdi 150 gti the other day. Its semi synthetic oil. (I trust this is the right one - 5w 30).

The inside the shop was talking about long-life oil, same stuff, just lasts longer - ie oil change every 2 years.

Whats your opinions on this guys? Is it good / worth it?

(Ive been out of driving for some time and just got another car.. will have to wait for the s2 in future

Whenever I get gunked up heads and engines from turbo motors I know they've been run on longlife 5w30. First time you floor it tye oil breaks down from turbo heat and subsequently trashes the engine.
On road going vehicles were oil temps sit between 90-100 5w40 all the way from main stealer

Long life servicing is a con. Just read up on the camshaft damage it has supposedly done to 2.7T engines
Regular changes is the way forward, even if you only change the filter every other change, as long as the oil is new and good oil can be had as cheap as £20 a gallon, its not worth the risk IMHO.

5W30 is too thin, use 5W40, always fully synthetic.

LL oil is good. It's service intervals that are bad.

Always use fully synth, unless running in a new engine

I'm a bit obsessive about oil changes- always have been-regular changes-good quality oil, doesn't have to be the 'best', most expensive, most 'technologically advanced etc..but just decent stuff, and use original filters every oil change too...Hell, folk never used to change their flamin' oil anyway before 'Longlife servicing' insanity became the new fashion 'must do'..that only gave the cretins absolute license to do changes every 20,000mls instead of 5,000...oh but the factory says.. (buy new cars, cos you wrecked yer 'old' one, with our 'recommendations'!)

I've replaced five camshafts and lifter sets on PD MK IV Golfs over the the past couple of years, all of the engines had been on the long-life service plan.

Thx guys did the oil change in the dark. 5w40 halfords own £40. New filter n air filter too.
Slightly leaky from the intercooler pipes. But guess this is normal. Thx again
