    ABY loom running 3B

Hi guys, is anyone on here running their 3B engine on an ABY loom using the distributor in replace of the cam position sensor?

I have several wiring jobs to do and would like to get the lo swapped at the same time but will not be fitting the ABY engine for some time.

Should be possible by peeling the ABY cam sensor wires out of the injector/cam sensor wiring harness and then plugging the cam sensor harness connector into the 3B distributor. You would then need an ABY cam cover and coil pack (might be some issues) or either a 1.8t/2.0TFSI/2.5TFSI coil pack conversion or LS2 coil pack conversion with the 3B cam cover.

    In my opinion.

Thanks I was hopeful that would be the case...
I don't want to destroy the ABY loom so will just make an extension back to the distributor for now until I get the engine swapped over using the plugs from here...

With reference to the coil packs and cam cover I have spare ones of these to run for the time being as when the new engine goes in it will have later style coil packs etc.

It just means if I do it this way I can swap the engine in day rather than stripping the whole dash, carpet and looms out again!

The dizzy has exactly the same output basically, so as long as you align it right and connect it the same way as the later hall sender it will be just fine.

Only one thing - I've had some issues with the worm gear snapping off the camshaft at 8000 rpm and up on the 3B engines, so we had to go to the ABY setup with the cam pulley window for those. No issues with stock 7200 redline though!

Nice one thanks Dimitri, the dizzy has a brass gear so it will be ok for now.

I aim to throw a K24-7200 with a billet wheel on it soon so will get all of this stuff done while in process of building the new engine.

Then when new engine is finished it can all come out, paint the engine bay, convert to Servo brakes while access is easy and then refit new engine, larger intercooler etc.

It's been done a few times before.

I have a 3B loom with an extension for swapping to the ABY cam pulley hall at a later date. So that I can double check the hall sender works.
