    sore knuckles

Started a job which was only ment to take a day but took 3.

Was removing my turbo from my car got the first 4 nuts off downpipe fine, then one on manifold wouldnt budge so had to take the manifold off.

No probs there until you realise that you cant take both off together without moving the downpipe out of the way.

So tried to do the downpipe but the nuts and bolts just kept breaking off so had to angle grind the old bolts and nuts from the flanges. Found out that the top nut was welded on the flange, probably to save whoever fitted the exhaust first some hassle doing them up.

Finally got that all apart and got the turbo off on the bench.

Problem i had then was it was 6pm so too late to order parts for the following day so had to wait another day for bits to come along.

So found some other stuff to do, took all the pipes off and cleaned them up, found about 1/4" of oil in bottom of IC from the turbo bearings. So flusehd the IC and all pipes thru, fitted a new DV, the other one looked original and had the 710A code. The spring in it felt very worn.

Also too the steering arm off to free that up to do the tracking, going to be finishing that next week becuase ran out of time to do that and need a few more bits.

so all in all lost a few layers of skin off my knuckles. The saga will continue again next week when i finish off setting all the tracking up.

@Martin How much is it for a steering arm end connecting to suspension, the rwo nuts and the threaded bar which fit into it?

last bit i forgot, finished it at 8 lst night and kept getting a brake warning coming up. Spent about 1/2 hr scratching my head trying to work out what it was.

No fault codes anywhere check brake reservoir and connections, hyraulic reservoiur looked fine. But turned out to be the float inside was stuck down so the senor thought the fluid was low. Freed it up and problem solved, Woudlnt have spotted it myself but my dad walked out and spotted it straight away.

Just goes to show how much of a difference experience with problems makes.

Interesting to hear about the welded nut on the exhaust. When I came to put my CATs back on for the MOT I found that 2 of the nuts had been welded to the CAT flange, obviously to make it easier to do up.

Really makes you wonder what previous the 2 owners did to the car. Mine was supposedly totally standard but I then found it had been Superchipped (and then had it taken out) and obviously someone had had the CATs of for some reason

            Greg,

sounds like you need the whole steering arm? the left hand side is 38.50+vat, the right hand one is £53.50+vat. You get this:
