Well I opened up the brand new 3B made in Korea oil pump last night and noticed a sand looking powder in there, just the like another user had. It didn't feel gritty to me though and almost instantly dissolved when rubbed between fingers, kind of like talcum or graphite. Could it be some kind dry lubricant? I'm guessing this is the case.

I cleaned it out anyway and applied assembly lube before putting it back together

      Great pics Pat.

If you get a chance could you measure the lash in the teeth and axial clearance against the backplate? Interested to see what a new pump comes with as there are no factory specs I have been able to find

Sorry mate, that went back on same night I took it off before I thought of taking any measurements
I have a pump from an ACV engine that was still under warranty when the timing belt broke, so it wouldn't be very old. I can check that one out for comparison
