    ARP main studs

Quick question, maybe you guys can help me.

Firstly, will using ARP main studs require the main tunnels to be align honed due to the different clamping loads on the caps?

Secondly are they really necessary for up to 500hp / 700nm? I don't think I've ever seen anyone reporting problems resulting from the mains distorting at that kind of power level.

I had ARP main studs fitted Alex, but I had to have it lined bored regardless because of the new main caps I installed. I asked the machine shop your question and they said you would have to check/measure the tunnels for changes with the extra clamping force and have it re-done if it's out.

I don't believe they are required for your power goals, however a nice bit of insurance for future mods

Cheers guys. I don't really think they are necessary TBH for what I want but for the sake of £100 on the build I thought they might be worth doing, but I didn't really want to have to align hone the mains, or take the sump off to check their torque once I've run the engine. Think I will go for new OEM bolts

Hey bud, I have ARP studs fitted but didnt hone anything. I did them up nice and tight and everything still seems ok to me and my mate who did the build between the two of us.... Not sure if that helps you at all?
