Technical advice on mis fire on 2.0 tfsi engine!!!

A mate of mine bought a bit of a lemon of an a3 recently. It a 2006 8p Quattro running a AXX 2.0 tfsi. I have been rectifying problems with the cruise control multi function steering wheel and various bits of missing trim.
However about a month ago he mentioned the car had gone into limp mode when pushed on a motorway run. I plugged it in to VCDS and it gave an under boost code 00665.
I removed the diverted and the diaphragm was split. It was replaced With the latest revision. He also mentioned the car had misfired and a fault for a mis on cylinder 1 was found. Suspecting a coil pack a new Bosch one was put on as they are cheap a 30 quid.
Anyway about 3 weeks later he called. It was missing again but really bad. I had a shufty and it had logged mis fires on cylinders 1 and 3...? The 00665 code was also back again at 89 percent load.
Long stor short new genuine NGk plugs went I and it was better but lumpy on idle.
I watched on measuring blocks and it was picking up mis on 1 and 3 at idle and at very light throttle under 2000 rpm.
Since then it has played up twice in about 10 days. When you pull the plug it is wet with fuel.
I did a comp check and it did 180 psi across all 4 no bother. I checked the cam follower and lobe for the high pressure fuel pump and there was no wear.

I pressure tested the system and found no leaks.
I have however now got a PCV valve as they are known to Cause the 00665 code and mis fires at idle. The part has been revised many times according to parts guy.
I also found that the turbo intake pipe has a clip snapped off from the air box/top cover.
It also has a deep gouge which is close to perforated so I have one of those too.

However I am concerned that neither of these parts will cure the mis fire whic is recurring after a couple of days.
I am aware that as it is a direct injection engine the intake valves are very prone to cokeing up. It is possible to strip off the intake manifold and with the valves closed scrape out the crud. A long and laborious job.

To my simple mind I would have expected it to show on the comp test.
The other thing that I have considered is a failing injector on 1.
However they are expensive and I don't like guessing. I tried to find the injectors on the measuring blocks but could only find the overall rail pressure.
Also I have been reliably informed that once a mis fire is detected the ecu will shut that injector off and give the wrong impression when looking on VCDS.

The other thing I have thought about is that the car is mapped and it is expecting to see higher boost and fuelling but on standard engine can't deliver. The car has definately bee played with as the stereo was all changed speakers etc. it's running forge boost hoses and I think the air box was removed and running some sort of cold air intake etc.

Ideas o a post card please. Once I have replaced the PCV and intake pipe next week I'm out of ideas, other than injector.
I'm trying to put off the cack job of intake mani off etc sorry for the big write up but wanted to give all detail. Ste.

id change the coil packs as the tfsi are prone to giving up, replace them with the rs4 ones

It's had a new Bosch one on cylinder 1. I also swapped 1 and 2 over and sent him away. 7 days later it was back but always on cylinder 1. I cannot see any wiring damage either.

Oh yes. I don't look forward to removing it. As I'll be doing it for free and time is tight etc.

we changed an inlet its not that bad, they have flaps inside them, we ran a 370hp mk5 golf which needed replacing. Another rareish problem is the cam follower , but coil packs are favourite

Yeah I'm aware that the intake flaps can come loose.
Again I'd expect cam wear to show on a comp test.
Also the mis doesn't follow the coil pack it is always on number 1 regardless.
It's not taking the intake off so much as the crap job of scraping out the coke build up.

Mis fire on cylinder 1 and random multi mis fire. No trim codes at all.

You will have to try a set of coilpacks onit and if its not that probs an injector

I'm not going to try another coil pack as I seems highly unlikely to me. Injector pattern/ failure seems obvious to me but they are 140 quid plus vat. And the plug is always wet when removed. However that doesnt mean it is working. My mate is rapidly running out of cash and patience bless him.
He keeps trying to swap it for either my diesel s line a3 or the s2. I told him to go forth.
It's been so unreliable for the 4 months he has owned it.
I would like to apply a little more theory before condemning the injector. I thought about swapping 2 round but seems hassle. If it were mine I'd change it but I still like the methodical approach not costly guess work

i spent a weekend with a laguna recently with a miss on cylinder 2.. i know its different car but, went through compression test, changing coil packs wich are wired in pairs ffs. could not move the miss from cyl 2.. no way no how.. ohmed injectors ..all fine, sent them for a clean and all was good, as they were all bad, no 2 was worst.

report said, spaying sometimes on the injector on question

40 euro to clean them.. sounds similar albeit very different cars

spark, compression, were fine an the injector used to start to miss once a certain coolant temp was reached everytime..

hope this helps, even in the slightest as i was about to boil over, when i was at it..

my lesson learned was don,t count out the injector, first port of call in a dag dag
1991 S2 3B Coupe, KW v1, solid sub frames, poly bushed, chipped, about 260 ish

                            It's not a diesel it's a petrol. I share your frustration though.
I spent 3 weeks recently chasing a hot mis fire on an Alfa brera 2.4 5 cylinder diesel. 2 injectors were leaking so I was positive it was an injector issue. No faults logged just a very rough idle on tick over only when hot.
I pulled all injectors had them checked an cleaned all clear. Took it to an Alfa specialist who blamed the dpf and charged a fortune for forced regen. Guess what it wasnt that.
In the end after watching various readings on lap top. I found the egr was staying open. Intake cleaned and egr replaced and it was back to pull health.
I was close to giving up with it, but I hate quitting. Swore I'll not work on another Alfa. Til next time!

Have you tried a cylinder leakage test?

I know its a pain when the injectors shut off on these sometimes giving a small window of time to diagnose, but can you hear the injector ticking with a stethoscope/long screwdriver?

Thats all i can think of at the moment that doesnt involve money on it.
