    CT buget turbos.

Any feedback for this "entry level" turbos ? http://compturbo.com/products/turbos/entry-level-series , even for no ball bearing / billet, it seems that are the cheap, is almost the price of a rebuild for and old turbo - 450E ?

Its you buy one you get one free, to keep you going since the first one will break down and need 4 months turnaround to fix

Im running a £150 chinese turbo. Its now done 2 trackdays and 3000 miles. Its boosting 14 psi and 330 bhp,and its perfect. No smoke,no shaft play, nothing.

I thought about the CT turbo, but took a gamble on the £150 one as essentially they are the same,(in fact id put my house on the fact the CT turbo is made in the same chinese factory)
Dont be afraid to go for one,the technology(of a oil bearing turbo) is 20+ years old and Im willing to bet chinese machining is easily as good as the german stuff of 20 years ago(kkk)
You can spend 6-700 on a garrett journal bearing turbo if you wish, but your not getting anything more exept the bigger bill.

Everyone will say dont run a cheap turbo,but.....
          1. They havent seen/inspected one.
          2. Many people including me have used them with great sucess. Proof is in the pudding.
          3. at 3 for the price of a garrett,(or CT,or whatever other label is put on it this month) you can change it yearly if you want.

Some people have to have pants with calvin clien wrote all over them, some people just wear plain old pants, that still do the same job.

i bought one, when't out with keith murry to live map it and it didnt even do 5miles on boost before shearing the shaft, breaking the compressor blades into hundreds of bits, and into the engine. the charge cooler stopped a lot of them but a few got in. so head off, scored bores, valve seats needed recut and pistons that look like shotgun splatter. the chinese may machine as good but i doubt very much use the same materials. i have had 2 reconditioned ones for my van off AET in yorkshire.... 1st cost me £450 and lasted 3 months, 2nd turbo they when't half an lasted 4 months. they must recon them with the same rubbish, awfull customer service too, never again ended up buying a brandnew OE and done over 18 months and fine. make your own mind up off that!

I did have a closer look at some Chinese Holset specimen, and some are of good quality. Aluminum castings are good, machining is excellent but they use cheaper alloys. (low Cu, high Si, adding other crap to retain casting properties)
EU labs find that they are using lower grade alloys for reducing their expenses and therefore gaining more profit.

Bearing material is genuine Cummins part, though turbine end tends to be of a K18 spec unlike the Inconel 713 Cummins uses. All Chinese turbines are of K18 as far as i can find.

Another thing is balancing. I do not trust any of their balancing work. I have found impellers with heavy metal drilled into the hub (like done with cranks) and this is not very common in our part of the world.

Still, this stuff can and will work but i doubt about the longevity on some bodged assemblies. I am sure that the quality will improve over time when we stop buying the crap and they will forfill our needs material & quality wize.
