Hey lads I'm going to see a 3B engine tomorrow its complete but has been sat idle for around 3 years. What do I need to check for I want a 20valve turbo for my E36 conversion
Sat all that time could create all sorts of problems especially if it's not been turned over at all got damp and the oils drained from the top to the sump.
there was one that had been in storage for what looked a long time also, that was a whole car mind ! you would have looms and everything, its not there now
1991 S2 3B Coupe, KW v1, solid sub frames, poly bushed, chipped, about 260 ish
Yes the guy is breaking his whole car he said he gave up on the restoration as a project it went on too long seemed genuine to talk to. I suppose I could prime the engine tomorrow and do a compression test etc. What pressure should I be seeing in each cylinder ball park will do its been laying a while.

Well I bought the engine ill start a build thread probably next week.
Is anyone aware of the compatability or possible compatability of these engines with any RWD g-box for example 5 cylinder diesel VW LT van gearbox?
I'm debating on mating to BMW M3. 5speed or M3 evo 6 speed since its going into an E36 touring.
if it was me i'd use a 5 speed quattro box welded up like sleeper_avant's done on his car, box will cost you peanuts, easily found and once welded up will handle good power and abuse, just check if the ratio's are correct for the diff on your car. Then just get a quattro prop and your bmw one joined together. The linkage is simple enough on a 5 speed box and should not present too much hassle mating up with your shifter.
should be quite a good weapon with the engine fitted. Have you looked to see if the sump fowls the front subframe or anything yet?
The box is available there's a 5 and 6 speed there.
I didn't have the coin for a box but I have first dibs. My worry is i don't want the shifter coming up in the wrong location hence I was going to mate to BMW gbox instead he has the shifter and floor section for the 5 speed there is no 6 speed shifter present. I'm capable of doing it both ways.
I'm going to strip front end of Touring today and will post appropriate pics asap
