calling holset super 40 owners and other's opinions

Hi everyone, so this is from a precious post what is happening, comments on both topics would be helpful

" oil pressure seemingly starting to become slightly lower than 1 bar...

oil pressure was fine started noticing this once the rear turbo seals started going,

so a few questions i have for you guys, I just did the break in a while ago on the built aan motor with holset super 40 turbo, and switched to AMSOIL now, and started to notice that the turbo seal in the rear was leaking oil, seeping out in the middle of the shaft and then out the exhaust to, so that's getting rebuilt, in this process i switched my oil in and out to the right size 12an out and 6an in what, holset requires.

    1. do you think im using the wrong grade oil? (ill have to double check what im using)(and what are you guys using with big turbos) which this could be possibly leading to the oil seeping out the rear seal once it gets hot?

    2. I do notice after the car gets warm that the oil pressure hugs just below 1 bar, (pretty sure this isn't from the new larger oil lines), any diagnostics for lower oil pressure?

Do our aan have a oil bypass by the filter? that could be a warn spring and allowing for slightly lower oil pressure, let me know your opinions thanks. ""

i was wondering what oil you guys are using with your holset super 40's or holset turbo's in general for the AAN motor, i am wondering if the oil i am using is thinning out to much when it gets hot and seeping out....

I had problems with my super 40 when I used too small(ID 15mm) oil out(drain to sump) piping. Holset requires minimum 19mm out and no restrictors on the oil-in side. I have now a 21mm drain and no problem with the turbo. AN12 hose is ~19mm ID but the fitting is smaller ~15mm, so maybe your problem is there..?

    I also use AN4 for the oil-in.

i previously was using an 10an for the out and what seemed to be smaller than a 4an for the in, and now i have a 12an for the out, and a 6an for the in. I'm assuming the 6an in won't be causing any problems.

It may. Since the restriction on the oil pressure side is what causing the pressure rise. I cant remember what I use but I never see less than 1.2 with 10w-40 amsoil on very hot summer days.
        Go Holset or Go RS4

Billman could you verify what size in you are using?

also can others with similar holsets post you in and out line size for these turbos, i'm wondering if the 6an oil in is causing lower oil pressure reading? any thoughts if it would?

i believe most people running holsets are using -4AN for oil feed.

i know a few guys running hx35's and 40's and they said that's what they use.. not sure if that's of any help to you.

                thanks for the input

general question to everyone, since i have been getting mixed answers, but a larger in and out like, is more volume? so wouldn't that drop the oil pressure slightly due to the increase in volume?

I dont think that would makw the pressure lower. If you put more oil in it should raise the pressure, due to more volume?

                  Makes sense in my head?

you really just need a large differential between in flow and out flow

running 4 in 16 out on two hx40's no probs
