    rpm tickover

hi is there a easy way to set the idle speed a bit higher than standard, we tried moving /tweeking both sensors on the throttle , but didnt realy increase the idle

N71 Idle Speed Stabilization Valve (ISV or ISS Valve) Info

Okay. It's an ADU on Motronic (?).

So why don't you want the Motronic ECU to set the idle speed? The ECU uses the N71 Idle Speed Stabilization Valve (ISV) to set a reasonable idle, e.g. 800 RPM once warmed up, based on the inputs it receives, including signals from the A/C compressor control system. Seems like an excellent system to me. I don't think you can over-ride it. If you are having idle speed issues, it is typically either a vacuum leak or a dirty ISV.

hi most the time its ok , but every time welst rallying if i make a sudden stop the engine always stalls . this seems to cost me more time [to restart the car] than the incedent wich has caused me to stop , we noticed a lot of the rally cars have a higher idle speed.

Does the throttle screw not have any effect on it? It works fine on mine to inscrease or decrease idle speed as its letting more or less air in.

              Hi Ray,

My 20v conversion used to do this to. I was told that the road speed sensor/signal wire needs an input. Consequently I connected it to the road speed sensor on the gearbox and its not occurred since..

Something to do with idle speed map selection, I'm sure PRJ will have a take on it.

              Darren.

many thanks that could well be the problem as we dont have the speed sensor connected as the car still has the old coupe quattro dash clocks

Our rallyrep does exactly the same.... With the CQ dash, we've looked at upping the RPM too, as it helps oil pressure and oil circulation for cars working hard all the time... And, ours, due to a quirk of the AAN to Cq wiring triggers the low oil pressure audible warning relay when really hot at idle, even though its within AAN tolerance.

Let me know what you find Ray...

thanks ian , we thought of drilling a small hole threw the butterfly in the throttle but think even with air passing all the time the ecu may just lower tickover to standard

Would have thought it was possible to feed an aircon on signal to the ecu for a 50/100 rpm idle raise.
You will need to know what the pin number is (easy) and what kind of signal it needs (not so easy).

Did anyone get to the bottom of this as I have this issue and would like to get tickover above 900rpm
