    Fuel pump seizure

Bought a V8 yesterday which had a seized fuel pump, ignored this as the car was cheap enough not to worry about hearing the engine. However tried to get her running today get it off the transporter so took one my spare audi 90 pumps to try to get her runnign off a can of petrol, oddly it was also seized. So pulled the pump off my 90 20v which was working last week, its seized. Have I missed something or are the pumps very sensitive.

Annoying thing is that MOT is booked for my 90 20v net week and if pumps gone that messes that up

Try connect direct from battery to see is it still alive.

I think mcandmar had a thread with photo of a broken one he took apart, just in case you might want to see inside to help decide on where to tap the pump.

        Best wishes.

They say these things come in threes. I have seen this with one sitting on the shelf, fuel evaporated out and it stuck with the varnish left behind. A tap with a hammer should free it but it may also be signs of a weak pump and impending doom.

I captured and added mcandmar's dissecting of VDO/Siemens and Bosch 091G fuel pumps for my G6 Fuel Pump post: http://forums.quattroworld.com/s4s6/msgs/22623.phtml

As to re-using a "spare" fuel pump, my thought is:

It's like re-using a condom. Sure you can, but why would you?

The OP should buy and fit a new one.

            Fuel pump that is.

The pump on the 90 was new 2 years ago and was fine last week however a new pump has once again been bought for it. As for th eV8 it was literally just to get her off the transporter, which I managed this evening with a pump off a 2l A6 after trying gental taps, sadly the taps actually cause the other pump to seize if applied in wrong place and free off in other but never pump fuel....

Oh well cant beat the V8 noise
