Anyone have experience with Comp Turbos?

had a Precision 5857 that had the center section leak oil into the turbine side...replaced the center section...leaked some more. warrentied it, sold it. also used the supplied oil restrictor.

Went to a Comp 6062 tripplex ball bearing. comp sales suggested a certain oil restrictor so it was purchased from comp once the car was getting close to being first fired. turbo has been great. wonderfully quick spooling turbo, pulls super hard....then kaboom under light boost in 2nd gear.

looks like bearing failure.... Comp has the turbo back and says there was oiling issues and no oil restrictor is needed? idle oil pressures are 25-30psi and in boost/high revs it peaks around 60-65psi.

still working with them...but yes basically. warranty is up by 3 months. their tech guy says the restrictor is not needed but if you run it...it should still not cause any issues.

not even bothering them with the hood dent or chipped paint on that dent....oh ya what about all the aluminum in the charge pipes too. still in awe that it happened....thought comp was a reputable company.....

should get an oil-less turbo from them so there cant be an oiling issue anymore...

I have plenty of experience with comp, all negative 3 turbo later I finally got the one I ordered ! Which works well now

There after sale service revolves around lies and bullsh-t

Restrictor wise, You need to run with a .3 or .4 otherwise they will pass oil via the seals, no restrictor the turbo would not last long. Did you have a filter before the restrictor ?

I have 4yrs experience dealing with them now

oil filter on the motor, but no filter to the turbo. oil line comes off the oil filter housing, oil restrictor, then turbo. have a phone call scheduled in 30min with them.

What size restrictor did you have ? normally it is good practice to have a filter pre-restrictor if running very small restrictors

I have had 3 turbo s from comp, One thrust bearing which required a restrictor

              And 2 CT4 3b turbo s 60 62 and a 58 62 which required very small restrictors

not sure on the size, but it was from comp.

well looks like they will split the the cost of the turbo....selling it and going to buy a garret gtx

There's plenty of oil pressure from the oil feed so sounds like a block restrictor, if it was not a turbo failure

Well Sounds Like a Bit Of a result at least, better Than Nothing !

Even with a GTX still a good Idea to have a filter on the oil feed line to turbo

not the first and probably not the last one.

3 friends of mine also had similar issues with those turbos.

                    i personally prefer KKK...

Garrett, kkk or holset are the only turbos worth using. If they can't provide compressor maps they arnt worth using. Just sticking various bits together without proper testing, design or even understanding is what some of these new guys are doing.
