    RS2 Spec Tuning Options

    Hi All,

I'm nearly there with the RS2 spec upgrades so need to decide which route to take with the tuning. Question is which route do I take? I'm after your opinions and experiences of chips versus mapping. Primarily I want a 'safe' tune as i'm using stock internals on a 70k miles engine that has just been serviced with new seals, gaskets and pumps etc. I would like to get as near to 370 as I can with the following spec: Wagner Evo EM, RS2 Turbo, RS2 injectors, 034 fuel pump, RS2 Intercooler, 3" Downpipe ending in 2.75" at the rear (Not built/fitted yet).
So what or who do you recommend then? I know it's been discussed a few times on here but there's new mappers out there along with new chip suppliers so i'm after a bit of an update on experiences and the current recommendations.

    Cheers

    Russ

As discussed in person, I've got stock chips here you can run til you get it mapped or you can try my ECU. Both run on an identical setup including track use for 5k+.

370bhp is at the top end of a stock turbo, you'll realistically get 360. Not much of a difference to anything other than pub figures. Tesco 99 or V Power are essential, as is a tidy up of the coil pack wiring loom and spark plugs.

Nice one Andy. Forgot you had a stock RS2 chip, will def take you up on that. There are obvious cost differences too between a chip and a mapping session, would be good to hear from those who have experience of both set-up's in their cars to get a feel for the difference between the two from a driving perspective. i've obviously been in Andy's car which was/is superb but not in a similar set-up car with a mapped ecu. My main concern here is doing what's best for the engine. My head says get it mapped but if there's a chip that's as safe and gives an equally harmonised performance gain then I could be tempted.

Don't forget that whatever SW you use should be compatible with the ecu variant. So if you run SW based on the RS2you would need the resistor mod to the ecu unless running an RS2 ecu.. If its S2 based RS2 SW then you shouldn't in theory. Naturally if you get it mapped the person responsible would do whatever ecu modifications that were necessary.

Good shout, i've got a 3bar map sensor waiting for the mapping session but yes, i'm currently using a standard S2 ecu so the chip would need to be compatible.

You can't get above 260 or 270 with the stock 2.5 Bar (250 kPa) MAP sensor so that will have to be done before any live mapping or Stage 1+ (or higher) chipping.

BHP or WHP? Almost all homefried cars run 280+, some well in to the 290BHP region That chip runs about 0.8 Bar at the redline, so a 1.5 Bar maximum is not an issue. You could have the RS2 setup mapped to 1.5 bar and still get decent power but you'd miss out on mid range and be at the limit of measurement. All a bit academic really.

                  Crank hp.

Disagree about the lack of need for the 300 kPa (3.0 Bar) MAP sensor to get above 260 crank hp with a stock K24-7000 turbo.

Disagree all you like, it's been done many, many times... Maybe fuel is the issue here? We get 98 RON to play with. My car was 330ftlbs &294/297bhp. As I said, you're under a bar up the top end so the map sensor isn't an issue.

Not sure you'd get more power from a K24 >1.5bar anyway, its a hair dryer above that surely... We must have thicker air over here

If we can hook up with him you'll get a good safe map from PRJ. Otherwise i'd have thought the RS2 homefry or MRC generic map would be a safe 360hp set-up. I'm not sure if these need the resistor swap with these but someone used to working on the ECU should be able to perform this at the same time your map sensor is changed.

Is all your RS2 kit fitted to the car now?

Hello mate. Should be done within the next couple of weeks if all goes well. Are you looking at getting yours mapped?

I think the v-steam homefry Paul cooked up hits 1.45bar in the midrange which is just under the limit of the stock map sensor. But as Ross said it dosent actually make any more power, mine runs far better on the normal n-stream version as the extra heat just brings on knock and it all goes to pot. Maybe it works for some in freezing temps with quality fuel.

All that with a 250 kPa MAP sensor? Really. Shocked. Amazed. Confused.

                              Your 98 RON is apparently NAmerican AKI (=(RON + MON)/2) = 93 or 94. I can buy (RON+MON)/2 = 94 (Chevron with techron).

                              I hit 26 or 27 psig (1.8 to 1.9 Bar) peak boost with generic MRC Stage 3 RS2 software. Sea level = around 14.7 psi (1.01 Bar) absolute so 26 psi boost + 14.7 psi = 40.7 psia (= 1.79 Bar +1.01 Bar) = 2.8 Bar. I can't see how running a 250 kPa (2.5 Bar) map sensor would work for me.
