    Whats this?

I've been having boost problems reciently. I haven't even started the procedure of taking things apart yet and checking them. Although, when I opened my bonnet today I noticed this on top of the turbo just to the right of the air mass metre (I think it's the turbo anyway, I'm not too familiar with these cars yet). Its a small barbed pipe pointing towards the back of the car, possibly a vacume pipe fitting? It's approx 3/4mm diametre and about 15mm long.
Should this have a pipe/hose on it?

    Cheers guys.

    Antony.

No thats normal, its on the top of the wastegate. On the S2 this port is not used. On some of the turbo Audi engines (A100 10VT for example) it does have a pipe on it.

Sounds like your referring to the wastegate cap, which shouldn't have a hose on it mate

Very quickly, dont worry about that its a a release point on the top of the wastegate. check all the pipes coming from the front of your turbo and into your intercooler i bet its one of them!

The pipe should indeed have nothing fitted to it.
More concerning is that 'superchip-esque' nut and bolt bodged onto the WG...

'Release point' No - there is nothing to release - unless the WG diaphragm is split !

That hose just presents ambient pressure onto the upper chamber of the WG in the case of the S2 & RS2. Older Audis used this control port to help keep the WG closed by applying boost pressure into the upper chamber.
