latest contradiction = carbon fibre downhill mountain bike!!...

is it me or is that sucka gonna break at some point....and then its bye bye birds eye...exspensive thing to replace as you cannot fix...not yet anyway...

sorry to hijack the thread Andy but I reckon I'd have to go with heating the plug and giving it full on!

I had the same issue, used a bolt extractor and the sump plug came off with ease.

I had beaten it to death previous to that as it would not budge..

I've been working on outboard engines for 10 years and get this trouble all the time
The aluminium corrodes onto the steel bolt and copper washer by galvanic corrosion. You need to heat the aluminium, not the bolt. The trouble is the cast iron block its bolted to is an excellent heat sink so you'd need a lot of heat - probably best to run the engine up to temp first. Better still take the sump off to tackle it. Interesting to note that the modern fourstroke outboards use aluminium sealing washers on the sump as a copper washer makes the problem worse.

              [QUOTE]

Time will tell. It would give me the shits anyway, I just cant get it into my head. I did get to ride a carbon all mountain bike down a downhill track, seemed fine even with my bulk on it.

We certainly warranty a lot more carbon bikes than alloy ones. Carbon does not fatigue like alloy does, it does not like point impacts though.

Nobody is ever going to say a crashed component is 100% safe though, without an X ray machine.

Can I add myself to the list of people with a ridiculously tight sump plug

Lubed it up a bit overnight and will be starting the car again before trying to remove it tomorrow

If/when you get it off, consider this: T-207 or T-207NFumoto quick valve, common in the marine engine business. I have run a T-207 since 1999 but wish I had got a T-207N (you can put a hose on the nipple):

Ordered one about 10 minutes ago

I searched a bit on the forum and came across it, got the one with the nipple, cheers

Also I'm a bit worried if there is any chance of them opening by mistake..is there an extra safety you can use? Perhaps a zip tie round so the lever can't go up? I'm paranoid

I run the belly pan so there is very little chance of an issue. In fact, it requires two motions, lifting the leaver and turning the leaver to open the valve so it is inherently very safe. However, if you scroll down the link I provided you will find this (below) for $1.

I fitted one a few weeks ago, couldn't get the nipple one, there's no way it's getting caught accidentally but I did fit a clip as pictured too out of paranoia.

Had one on my old coupe, could change oil in 5 mins.

I used 2 copper washers to get the rotation of the valve correct. Didn't trust the fibre washer.

run one for years, never had an issue with it leaking or opening, that's despite running with no belly pan. Brilliant for oil changes and doing it while the oil is warm too

I must be the only one that has replaced one of these with a sump plug

Not due to any problem with it either, just that I like maximum drainage and with an application of thread anti-gall I've never found the sump plug a problem (touch wood!).

ha I know your pain Andy!

The first time i did the oil on the S2 i had the same issue, there was no way of bugging it. In the end I used a long breaker bar with an impact socket. Jacked the car up via the subframe and then lowered the car back down very slowly with the bar in place and socket on the nut. The weight of the car freed it of instantly.
I know your no longer able to do any of that but removing the sump with out draining it first is going to be a bit messy!
                                Good luck!
