Head gasket issues lead me to finding this...

In cylinder 1 only I noticed this ever so slight pitting, tge word potting even feels a little bit too strong a word but I thought I would take a picture and put it to the professionals (you ).

Does this look fatal or is there an amount of this thats acceptable?

    Cheers guys!

Pitting is a result of detonation, which is also a cause of head gasket failure. Id suggest something is wrong with your tune and needs to be fixed or the same will happen again.

Ouch! I would get your injectors checked for flow rate, see if one is drastically low. Get AFRs logged too when its all back together too. Is the ECU stock or is there a map/chip involved here?

As for whether that is acceptable I'd think not but there's a few round here that can answer better. If its really slight perhaps a rehone would tidy it up?

Anyone have any ideas what I can do with this before I go ahead and refit the head?

          Thanks all!

I dont think the current condition will cause a problem but see it as a warning it will get worse if the route cause isnt addressed.

what do the top of your pistons look like.

Perfect condition but coated black that wipes of fairly easy.

Is it worth mentioning at this point that the spark plugs were black - hardcore black!

Should I treat this "pitting" with say scotchbrite at all? Also is it ok to clean what I can get to with say a microfiber and wd40?

You'd need to remove a piston really.

Time to grow a bigger pair I guess

It's one of those, I am sure it will be fine TBH but you might uncover a horror.

Key point here is to find out if the pitting is wearing the piston ring. If so you should get it sorted or you'll just be losing compression, oil, and power.

If its not then you'll probably be fine. Does it feel rough to your finger tip?

Are there any write ups on here re. Releasing one piston. I know ive got to start by taking the sump off to get to the bottom end.
