Not really s2 related, a friend just installed this turbo garette t3/t4 60trim stage 3, on a KR vw engine. It uses a 6mm oil restrictor. Turbo seem to be in very good shape, no shaft play, leaks etc. Problem that from what he says on idle turbo only start spining around 2000 rpm, and very slow. From what i saw ussualy journal bearing does not need oil restrictor, and the 1.8bar oil pressure in ilde, is far to low to cause any problem. Maybe the turbo to big ? or some other problems ? what should be checked. ?

propper garrett shouldnt need a restrictor
turbo is probebly fake and should then need a restrictor, may smoke on idle when hot also

i thought it was only ball bearing turbos that needed the restrictor?? when you say idle are you looking for the turbo spinning whilst its sitting still reving? or watching boost gauge whilst stationary? if so try it down the road with some load on it.. even then i wouldnt have thought it would be on full boost untill 3k anyway, sorry if i have the wrong end of the stickComment

bb needs them non bb ok.
the kr on stock cams generates very little low down. a 60 trim t04e will not boost til 3.5k or so id have thought depending on hotside.
does it go well after.
2 exhaust cams with correct timing mods is a good way forward for kr.Comment
