It being fitted the wrong way around wouldn't make the manifold crack anymore than it's already prone to. All turbo charged engines put enormous strain on their EM's and it's rare to find a used S2 EM without a crack somewhere. If it's letting gas escape I'd replace it with either a posh one like a Wagner or take my chances on one of the RS2 knock off that trade on eBay. Be careful with the later option as quality varies greatly I got lucky and purchased a manifold so well cast as to be indistinguishable from a genuine one and so have others on here, whereas a few unlucky folks have ended up with glorified scrap.
Don't even look at the shinny eBay tubular affairs that sell for around a hundred quid their all awful. If you want a tubular EM a chap from Poland who's on here make really good ones for about the £350 mark, can't remember his name know but I think it begins with a K.

Hehe, it is a little mauled. If I can't get it back perfect ill buy a new one.
I wonder if this may have caused my stock s2 manifold to crack, I found a few cracks and scorch marks around the cracks.
Its just something else I need to replace
Guess a new one would be crazy expensive. I've got one on the shelf as I couldn't use it with my manifold, but the postage would be somewhat expensive.
Neither will directly fit!
The only direct fit would be either of the factory manifolds, ABY/ADU or a Wagner upgrade. All being cast rather than fabricated.
Can you post some pics of the cracks on your manifold?
Put it this way, you cannot buy the tube bends and flanges to make a tubi manifold yourself that cheap, so think about what that tells you about the quality of the material and workmanship!
If it a stock turbo, I'd stick with an OEM manifold as they are cheap and plentiful. Otherwise I'd go Wagner.

The first one you link to looks a little better thought out, at least they have replicated the original flange pattern to reduce heat stress unlike the second one which is just plain awful. I wouldn't buy either though, I very much doubt they fit properly without a few tweeks and I wouldn't give it long before either crack.

Money permits me from going for wildly expensive wagner kit, though their website makes for awesome fantasy buying. I might take my chances with an rs2 rip off on ebay or just source a stock s2.
Sorry ro bring this back up but apparently these studs are now obsolete and as they are supposed to be stainless im finding it difficult to find a replacement.
Does anyone know where I can lay my hands on a replacement stud?
Do you just need one decent exhaust stud to be able to bolt the manifold on? If so I have a few good second had ones and your welcome to a couple of them for the price of a stamp.
