Squeaking noise from front of the Engine!

Can anyone tell me if this is something to worry about and what could be the cause? Sounds like a squeaky belt or pulley but I'm no mechanic.

It does increase when the engine is revved.

I attached a short video of the noise

Water pump or belt tensioner idler pulley.

I've recently had aux belts changed, could they just need re-tensioning?

      Thanks for the quick response!

Cheers, will take a look next time it's in the garage .

No harm in driving it then I suppose? It's only a short journey.

I wouldn't say it is risk free. Monitor the coolant temps and Voltmeter in case there are issues.

Mine had a very similar noise develop from the front of the engine and it is the cam belt tensioner on mine, not saying it is that for sure on yours, but i would look at it as soon as i could and not drive it until it was fixed. Any kind of bearing failure on the front that could stop belts moving is going to be costly to repair.

If the squeaking bearing jams, the valves can get bent and that might get pretty expensive...

I can't watch the vid at the moment as I'm on a VERY primitive laptop that doesn't want to play ball so this is based on past experience of hard to place belt squeaks on S2's .

Before you start pulling the front end off to check the cam belt tensioner and idle roller etc which is a bit of a PITA, first make sure the Aux belts are properly adjusted (5 mins) then if the squeak is still there give the PAS belt/pully itself a little squirt of WD40 or GT85 with the engine running, don't go wild with it as it only takes a small amount to work.

Crazy as it sounds I've seen this work for myself a few time's on ABY's and the phenomenon has been documented on here.

Well the cam belt was changed by previous owner at 124k, It's currently on 137k and the belt does look new. The aux belts were changed a few weeks ago and prior to that there was no noise..will check that they are properly adjusted and ask my mechanic to check for play and inspect around the area.

Thanks for all your help everyone!

Well if the cam belt was replaced that recently and the noise appeared after the Aux belts were replaced the odd's are it's coming from one of them. Check the adjustment and give the WD40 trick I mention a go.

Took it out round the block as it's been laid up for a few weeks..noise went away and isn't squeaking any more but will check the belts as I'm not confident it's sorted

But the question is, Did they also change the tensioner pulley when they R&R'd the cam belt? They might not have.
