    Wagner intercooler

Right been reading a few post's regarding the wagner I/c, fitting seems to be a bit of a pitta. I would have thought a company with the rep they have it would be a straight swap no messing about. I will be needing an Rs2 I/c or equivalent in the near future so is there any thing out there apart from oem Rs2 that will fit with no messing about.

There is nothing that I'm aware of. The RS2 intercooler is your best bet, the Wagner has kept their price down. Either get one with an RS2 cross member or be prepared to get a bracket made up to attach it.

It does look like the newer Wagners are specific to the S2/RS2 now, I've been burned with mine! I have no way of fitting it right now, seems it was an S2 specific variant and wont fit my RS2 crossmember.

I'm at odds - do i sell the RS2 IC and butcher the cross member, or sell the Wagner and maybe get the right one in future. Over 400hp it should be worth ~5hp up top, is it worth the hassle?

      There you go, buy Ross's...

I too had issues, having bought an RS2 xm to fit an RS2 EVO ic Just fit the bracket to your S2 xm. Done. Rest of the ic is spot on.

These type of posts annoy me, when you buy an uprated part of any typefrom any company expect a degree of fitment issues to your car because these cars are so old none of them are the right measurements as they were out of the factory anymore.

TBH, I think that the RS2 Evo name is the issue here, as most expect that it's a straight swap for RS2 kit. Wagner kit is a premium product and as people are paying a premium, there is an expectation of it being a direct fit.

                im with jamo here.

wagner stuff fits as best as any aftermarket parts I have ever seen.

ill take offers on my wagner intercooler and x member though. its the bigger version of the rs2 evo. think its evo 2. the short runner one.

I don't mind having to fiddle about with anything I assumed that it was a straight fit as the listing says direct fit and having read some posts saying otherwise thought I would ask the question

id say its a direct fit for the short runner. the pipes all fit the ic fits the bumper, the x member fits the car. small, tweaks it all fits together.

there are many bits ive seen from the states that say direct fit and the need machining to make them a fit.far from direct

Whats the problem actually? The RS2 EVO Cooler fits straight into all RS2, if you want to fit this cooler to an S2 ( 3b or ABY) you get an Bracket to mount it. The passenger side OEM Mount needs to be trimmed down, same work when you mount an RS2 cooler to an S2 x-member.
Some have Problems with the clearance Pulley to IC, but thats normal on an S2, the engine and transmission just need to pushed back then. The OEM Mounts have a lot of play...

@Gazza/Jamo - Appreciate what your saying but there are clearly some differences in the RS2 EVO IC - I read a comment that there was a design revision - nothing to do with wear or play in mounts etc, the one I have does not fit the RS2 x-member.

I personally think it's very helpful to the community to discuss and understand such issues. It helps a manufacturer support their customer base and helps the end user understand what issues to be prepared for.

Quite simply - if a stock part fits perfectly, but an aftermarket 'direct fit' does not, then it's not a 'direct fit'. Can't get any more logical than that.

@Carsten - please can you clarify and confirm, for myself and others, what the differences are in the RS2 EVO IC's and if I'm correct with the below? And do you supply the bracket for the S2 separately?

                        My observation is:
                        • The 'S2' RS2-EVO IC I have has no way other than custom mount to the RS2 X-member. this was an early version that is no longer made with the mouting points ~15mm too narrow for the RS2 X-member.
                        • If I had the correct mounting bracket, it could be attached quite easily to the S2 X-member.
                        • The later versions of the RS2-EVO IC are indeed a direct fit to the RS2, and supplied with a mounting bracket that can be attached to the S2 XM - I assume slightly different in measurements to the one I have.

Conclusion is buy one new and know you're getting the latest version! I am best either selling mine for S2 fitment or getting an S2 x-member and a bracket made up.

My Wagner IC fit my RS2 crossmember perfectly. Would be nice if they included new bushings though! Only problem was that I had to grind down the inlet pipe on the IC to fit the hose, but then again my hose is softer than a melted icecream due to age. Hoping to sort this out with some silicone hoses!

Hey Ross, you must have a 6 year old cooler from us, as 6 years ago we had 10 made with different mounting holes for the s2. At this time we had 2 different versions, one for RS2 and one for S2.

should fit RS2 without any modifications ? Original RS2 bumper will go into its place and fixing points without touching intercooler ? Has anybody done it ?
