Advice on pipe behind the glove box

Can Someone advise if the un-attached pipe in this picture should be attached to the bottom of the black cylinder also shown in the shot? Also can anyone advise what the purpose of it is?

    Thanks in advance.

It should. Its meant to work for the aircon flaps and uses the vacuum tree. It is also a source of boost leaks for that reason

Oh look, there's the moisture trap (lower left corner of the photo), white with the two hoses (one in from the intake manifold, one out to the ECU MAP sensor):

Thanks guys, I will get it re-attached.

That said its a bit redundant as the aircon broke years before I owned the car.

That vacuum solenoid operates the recirculation flap so even without working AC you will still use it I am sure. Its vacuum feed has a one-way valve on the bulkhead so shouldn't be a boost leak concern, unless the valve is damaged.

True, but it could be a source of false air into the inlet manifold on closed or almost closed throttle.

Best to make sure it's connected to the flap motor or closed off.

Take the blower box out and ditch all the ac stuff. You get a proper sized glove box as a bonus

Just got round to taking a look at the car again. I took the solenoid thingy off, and it turns out I have two more missing connections. Check out the photo.

I haven't noticed any boost leak so assume that someone may have blocked the pipe(s) up in the past.

That said could someone post up a diagram showing how this system should look? I couldn't find any other vacuum pipes that weren un-attached, or blocked off.
