Speedo stopped working for a bit. Too worry or not?

picked up one of my boys from daycare and drove off but noticed that the speedo had stopped working

after a few minutes (maybe once I hit a 70kph zone) it started working again.

and before this at lunch time I turned the car over , it fired up and died. then I tried turning it over again with no luck (didn't fire up). gave it a bit of gas while turning the key and it was all good

    ??

    Ideas?

    Thanks!

The speedo problem is ok as it means you won't be aware of how much over the speed limit you are doing ha ha.

The other problem sounds more problematic. You don't want to get stuck somewhere but it could be all manner of things I would think.

      Just slightly OT,

did you see that RS2 thats for sale on Carsales currently?

      He's asking 82,000AUD.

They are on the SEVS list meaning they can be imported and complied.

      Little much, dont you think?

Probably the connectors pins at the sensor plug are corroded and need a clean up - you can access the plug from the engine bay, it is just above the LHS drive shafts flange

Sounds like your G40 Cam Sensor might be getting flaky.

That's a broken mechanical odometer issue, not the G22 signal.

The speedo chip takes the output from G22 and with it does three things, it drives the speedo dial, drives the trip and mileometer and outputs the speed signal VSS to the diff, ECU, cruise control, trip computer etc. (the blue/white wire)

So, if the output from G22 isn't reaching the chip at the back of the speedo you'll get none of the above.

If the chip's faulty (unlikely) you could be missing any one or all of the above but normally you loose all three at the same time due to an intermittent connection to G22 or a fault with G22 itself.

What I have found on mine is that the trip on its own can stop - usually just after you've reset it - due to a mechanical engagement issue. Just try pushing the reset button a few times and see if it comes back to life.
