    Auxilary Radiator

    Hi Guys,

My auxiliary/secondary rad' in the RS2 is looking a bit tired and could do with replacing.I have done a quick search and it seems that some have removed the aux' rad and plugged off the two hoses.
My first question is does this not effect the cooling/running temperature especially in the summer months?

Is the cooling system the same on an RS2 as an S2?

If i where to replace the Aux' radiator.Where would you recommend for a replacement? Or i could possibly re-core the existing.

    Any advice welcome

    Cheers
    Andy

Lots of people have removed with no ill effect, I decided to replace mine but used a standard Aux rad of a Coupe'. Slightly shorter than the S2 but fine all the same.

If you decide to replace I think I might have one kicking about in good nick £50 plus post.

If you want a full size one you will be looking at between £80 - £150 depending on condition if you can find one.

I've not had one for the last 8 years. I've done everything from daily commute to track days in 30deg heat and never had an issue. It also frees up a nice space to fit a proper oil cooler

Should you want to remove it neatly, I can supply some anodised aluminium bungs to finish it off.

I thought s2 aux rad was the same as rs2? I bought a replacement from Audi this year... even with discount it was £££s (i'm a bit ocd though). Best bet is to get it recored. It is easy enough to find places to do this, just look for places which do tractor/truck radiators they should be able to help.

          Thanks for the replies guys...

Thats what i had read Rusty, regarding the removal and blanking of the hoses. My only reservation was, that it is additional cooling although it is only a small radiator...What to do???Could you PM me a price for the bungs and availability please?

Michael...That was what i was wondering,if the two where the same.I have a mate that uses a place for re-coring Rad's for trucks and HGV's,i'll see what he comes back with.

          Cheers

I've tried both ways and haven't noticed a huge difference. When I first bought the car I removed it and bunged things up as I had a hundred other things to do and spend the cash on. The more I got issues sorted I decided to replace the aux rad.

From experience of the main radiators I will say avoid anything made by Nissens and stick to known brands like Behr or Hella, they will last far better.

I'm pretty sure I bought my last aux rad from Pete at Quattor Corner and it's been good so far. Why did the car have it when new if it didn't need it? On that basis I'm guessing it helps with the colling nd on a car with 160K miles I reckon that's a good thing....but up to you!

I agree with you on that one...I can't see why the rad would be there if it was not required in the first place. But always good to hear peoples opinions, especially when they have tried both options.

I think i'll have a phone around tomorrow and see what is available then report back.

Anything else i should be looking to replace while the rad is off?

                Thanks again guys,much appreciated
