    Success

Have spent the last couple of days changing my turbo.

Apart from a few minor snags the jobs done and appears to be a complete success. (full power returned thankgod!)

On removal of the turbo i made sure the coolant and oil feed/return pipes were clear.... turned out that the lower coolant pipe was totally blocked solid from end to end. I'm guessing this may have caused my old turbo to overheat in a big way, probably causing it to give up! Any one else found this problem? Any ideas on how to aleviate the problem in the future?

    Cheers,

    Gareth

P.S. Thanks to Tim for the turbo

      GUNK

Blockage was a brown gunk. Checked all my other hoses but couldn't find the gunk anywhere else. Changed the oil and water.

As the gunk was confined to the turbo area (found in turbo also) I'm wondering if the oil to water seal in the old turbo had gone... is this possible?

      Cheers

      Gareth

Sounds like you may have had a crack in the turbo bearing housing.

              also:

              Another question....

I'm still getting a slight stutter occasionally, especially when first started up.

Would the fuel pump being on its way out cause this. I have noticed a loud hum from the rear of the car sometimes? Is this the pump?

There is a quick way to check it yes, I posted it a few days ago, I'll find that post for you. The fuel pumps in our cars and lots of other VW + Audi's are always noisy! they can be for ages....

Don't know anout the stutter though... define stutter more? like won't tickover, doesn't pull cleanly only at low revs when cold etc... the Guru's on here will point you in the right direction.
