Fan relay (speed 1) - static sound and draws current
Fan relay (speed 1) - static sound and draws current
I can only assume its my Fan relay (214 i think), speed one often gives a static sound under the dash and heavy current draw as it kicks in - lights dim and voltage drops for a couple of seconds. If i use the AC switch its fine... Can anyone confirm thats the relay?
If anyone with a spare gets this in time... Bring it to ADI and i'll buy it!
After-run pump and fan control module and relay info

Ross: The after-run fan Speed 1 relay is under the hood, not the dash. The "324" after-run fan AND pump control module is the one under the dash. It triggers the after-run pump and the 214 after-run fan delay time relay.
The 214 in question is,(EDIT) as Stephano has pointed out, the grey relay hiding behind the 229 control module (The other 214 relay in the right of the photo below also relates to the rad fan (but not to the after-run control module):
Delay time relay location is shown in this "map" behind the "intermittent relay".
The 324 control module is the one that energizes the 214 rad fan Speed 1 relay. The 24s do go bad and cause the rad fan to run until the battery is completely flat.
The 324 in an RS2 (and presumably S2) is under the dash, as shown here, in the upper left corner of the relay panel.

The 214 in question is the grey relay on the right side of this photo:
On my RS2 the relay for fan 1st speed related to the afterrun system it's not the one pointed by you Dave.
Still it's a 214 but it's the one hidden behind the taller 229.
This works for both the after run speed 1 and 1st speed running continuosly when A/C it's on.
As per this picture from www.audi-s2.co.uk it's called radiator fan delay.

My bad. Here is a better photo than the one you pointed me to. It is in my after-run pump write-up linked above (and here: http://forums.quattroworld.com/s4s6/msgs/21503.phtml ) (For future searches, I have revised my post above):
After forgetting to collect a 324 relay from David at ADI, I'm still looking for one if anyone has one? Dread to think what Audi would charge... for now I'm just driving everywhere with the AC switch on
