    Car overheated today,

    Not a happy chappy.

Went to mates house and the temp warning light came on

So i believe the multifunction temp sensor could be on the way out

N e one know the price for one of these?

Have you checked coolant levels also make sure its not run too low.

Also checked that the fan was coming on around 90 degrees.

did you go quickly round a corner when the light came on? If that was the case and the dash light went off again after a few secs then the level is just low and the coolant moved about enought to trigger the alarm.

MF temp sensor is about £60 from a stealer, from vagparts less than a stealer almost certainly!
              Cheers,

i have a suspicion that when the car thigks theres no water in engine it displays the overheating warning light, but like you said, it said the temp was 80, and mine reaches 100 at times with no warning light.

if you look at ur water bottle, its made of two parts. Where them parts join is the max level, make sure your water is not below this line.

Dog, First off try checking the temp sensor connections on the rad for the fan speed, Your after run pump etc is working fine and when I warmed car up fan triggered ok so may be the MFTS triggering the dash display. check the cheaper bits first though.

Strange, gavce the car a booting today on the way home and the temp staye at 70-80 no problems at all, with waiting in traffic and going through town, so strange that it didn;t heat up like last time, but last time i was sitting outside mates house for a while with engine on.

Temp has never exceeded 90 on mine, standing or not, now ive removed the aux rad the fan runs a little more frequently if stationary, but max temp stays constant

Should i worry that my temp reached 90 or shalli keep a close eye on it and see how it goes?

90 is as high as it should go, maybe a touch over but thats it, the fan then comes in a super speed and cools it all down.

Ive seen mine as high as 95-98 during track days. Sounds to me like the MFTS has failed, or is failing. The coolant low light is totally different, IIRC.
