3b no spark

my 3b is now refusing to start. Its getting fuel just no spark was starting fine then the last couple of days has been getting harder and harder to start just keeps turning over have changed the dizy cap and plugs there's 12v to both posts on the coil shud 1 not be an earth? Cars totally standard no alarms or ****** all.

Plastic cog on dizzy could be a possibility unless you know its got a metal one on it

As always though, get the fault codes read or better still buy a £20 scanner off ebay and a 2x2 cable.you will no doubt need it again in the future.Saves time and money

If you have been trying and trying to start it may be just flooded.

If you stick a plug in the lead and leave it on top of the engine is the plug sparking or not?

Nope no spark. Rotor arm is turning as well

What is the background to this? Did it just not start today or have you done other work on it?

If you have no spark would be looking at either crank reference sensor, coil or hall sensor/dizzy alignment

Done ****** all other than change the dizzy and plugs. Old man had it a couple of days and was sayin it was gettin harder to start bit today it wont start and theres no spark. My incline is that the coil is shot as its getting fuel into the cylinders. What should the ptimary and secondry resistance be for the coil

Don't know the resistance figures off the top of my head but if you connect a lead directly from the top of the coil direct to a spark plug are you getting a spark then?

Is it correct to have 2 12 v feeds on the coil terminals as usualy 1 + ve and 1 -ve

Yes both terminals will read positive on the coil

It's down to 1 of 5 things then.

Is the rotor arm actually turning (aka broken dizzy gear)
Battery voltage (If it's low or turning over slow then this can cause funny issues.
Make sure you have not dislodged the earth cables towards the rear of the inlet manifold
Check to see if they are broken just before the ring terminal. Easily done with old wire when trying to gain access to the dizzy.

Or a duff coil.

Rotor arm def turning, bat voltage is spot on, all the earths are spot on first thing i checked my hunch is the coil but worse case its the dizzy are the 7a and kv dizzys the same or is the 3b unique?

7a one will work I believe - its important to make sure you use the correct 3B rotor arm though

What about the coil does it have to be the 3b one with the amplifire or will any coil do?

Rotor arm has a 1000 ohm resistor, broke on mine once. Measure from center to tip, if broken the value will be significantly higher than 1000 ohm.

Ill check that tomorrow. Does anybody have the coil resistancrs?
