Strange noise comin' out of engine hood...

It sounds like the camshaft chain to me... noise comes when getting the foot out of gas pedal and letting engine revs go down by itself with engaged gear (3 or 4th). And it's irregular - compared to engine speed...
Do You think that's really the chain? I'm little worried, 'coz service days are checked on february... Can it be dangerous to my engine? What else could make such a noise?
Any ideas are welcome .

Not something like your CATs have broken and are rattling in the box?
Check all you can visually might not be as bad as you think, if it is the timing chain for the cams i dnt believe this is very expensive, i think around £30, altho cant imagine how this could come loose or rattle.

I have no CATs... all 3" exhaust... I've found also my hydraulic pump should be replaced soon, can the pump make such noise?
Well.. I hope it will last to february, then it will replaced.

Let's make it clear - were talking about Catalytic Converters in exhaust, right?

Yes.

Get somewhere like Powerflow or similar custom exhaust place to make them for you. I paid £100 to remove my cats

This is not the first time I have heard this complaint on this forum. CHECK FOR BROKEN VALVE SPRINGS ! I had a simmilar noise in my NA 20v & it turned out to be a broken inner exhaust valve spring. I only found out after the engine had spun a rod bearing due to lack of oil. The broken valve spring ate the top of the guide & the oil was sucked out of the engine. I was pulling about a ton (going about a 100 mph) and the cats burned up all the oil, so no tell-tale smoke. The "low oil"warning came on too late. I work on automobiles as a profession. If it can happen to me it can happen to you.

it's a little bit scary, what You're saying... My engine head was taken off two years ago and rebuided. It's worth checking...
