  • She's a startin' on 4 cap'n

Couple of times it's happened now - after standing for a couple of days (or more), mine (ABY coupe) sometimes starts on 4 cylinders rather than a nice healthy 5. Clears pretty quickly - usually by the time I've driven out of the garage - but that doesn't make it less irritating.

Boost's fine, once started performance is fine, no hesitations during driving, DV's doing a proper job (whooooooooooosh), fuel consumption no worse than normal...

    Any thoughts anyone?

    Cheers,
    Ck.

Quick stab in the dark - maybe a perished valve stem oil seal thats just letting enough oil past while stood to stop the cyl from firing straight away?
Any blue smoke on start up?
I've had this a few times on some of my older VW's (including a 5 cyl 1.9 Santana, anyone remember them?! )
    Nothing feels fast for long...

Nope - nice thought though. Thank you

No smoke at all at the moment (touch wood) having had the turbo overhauled (new seals, new 360 bearing, complete rebalance) at the last service.

All the filters are new, the oil's new and has no residue/milkyness, there's nowt dripping from underneath, and (amazingly) both hydraulic warning (sticky sensor) and airbag warning (shot slipring) have been quiet recently.

If it started on all 5 every time, it'd be perfect.

But then it wouldn't be an S2
