    Where to buy crankshaft sprocket

So looks like I got my paperwork muddled and I am going to have to do the timing belt in the new year. Now I've been reading on here about the crankshaft sprocket and how they can fail and the woodruff failing ect, so would like to replace it as a matter of course so I've googled the P/N and nothings coming up in the UK, is it a dealer only part?
Also with a belt change on a 7A is it just belt, tensioner and water pump to replace?
    Thanks
    Cadan

I was £25.34 from the dealer last year

It'll probably cause a bloody war on here, but if the dealer part is installed to spec by someone who knows what they're doing, then I don't believe there's an issue with it. That's not to say that the aftermarket options aren't better, just that IMO, the OE part shouldn't fail between belt changes under normal operation if installed correctly. I'd change it every time though, which I guess makes the aftermarket ones even more attractive long-term.

That's not as bad as I was thinking, having read some horror stories I'm not going to leave it to chance and will change the pulley as piece of mind, also you don't know what the history of the servicing is like so would never risk it IMO.

The inportant thing is to tighten the dampper bolt properly. You have to lock the damper, not the crank. If you only lock the crank(from the flywheel) then the damper(and pulley) tries to turn with the bolt and easily snap the keyway.

The reason people replace the sprocket with billet is it is a fit & forget part, whereas the OEM really be changed each time you remove the crank bolt as more often than not it is damaged.

When I come to do it I'll make a locking tool for the pulley, and as far as I'm aware if you use the right technique and do the job as Audi intended then I can't see the pulley failing. However I can see the benefit of fitting billet I just can't afford that with all the other bits to do on the car.
