Does sound like boost, but its always worth checking what has been done before things started to go wrong. I would take ERROR404 up on his kind offer! Very very kind!!!

Sounds like a plan ERROR404 I will be in touch after Christmas thanks, in the mean time I will do some investigating and report back, I popped a boost hose off on the ring and when I looked inside there was a lot of oil as I think the seals on the turbo have gone but I can't see how this will cause my problem, it hasn't smoked in a while!

its normal to have oil residue in the intake as the breather system is vented into it, so it consumes the oil vapour blown out of the crank case

I have always founf vag cars dont like venting externally. Im only in redditch too so am happy to help out too.
