    Turbo CFM

    Can anyone tell me the CFM of the standard S2 turbo,

    Also how the hell do you work out the CFM of the engine, I have tried using Paul's web site but I must be thick, I think I have worked out the cuin of my new engine but cant get past that.

    2498cc = 152cuin is that correct ?

    I am trying to find out the cfm right through te rev range but cfm @7000 would do.

    Can anyone help

    cheers

    You could come up with a VERY theoretical maximum by working out the volume drawn into the cylinders per minute at 7k. However you are going to be way off the actual figure as you don't have enough info. You cannot assume it is 100% efficient so you need more info than just Cubic capacity and revs.

      cfm is a crap unit anyway as it is highly dependant on temperature and pressure. Mass flow is a consistent unit thoughout the engine, cfm will vary at many different points of the engine.

        Do a search for 'Turbology' on the forum ! You'll want the v4 white paper and most recent calculators I created.

        Also interesting is a google for 'K24 Turbo maps' which will locate something interesting at sjmautotechnik. Note the units aren't CFM as the KKK turbo maps are in metric.

        Anyway - read the Turbology paper twice and ask me some specific questions if you get stuck.

        PS - Totally agree with Lee's comments... I'll do another version of the white paper soon to cover the all important ideal gas law which explains the relationship of air mass, volume and temperature.
