    Injetor plugs

Had a very slight misfire at low rev's a couple of time over the past couple of day, this morning I started the old girl to greeted by four as opposed to the expected five cylinders. I was worried at first as all my ignition components are new or only a couple of years old so as my laptop was in the workshop I plugged into VCDS and got a code for an intermittent short on number two injector, gave the plug a wiggle and bingo running like a watch again.

Upon pulling the boot back the thing fell apart, a closer inspection reveled the pink plastic housing is brittle as hell, all the others are just as bad and ready to disintegrate. Obviously they must be replaced before I even think about remapping, I vaguely remember AndyP having the same problem but I can't find the thread. Anybody know the part number for the pink housings and the rubber boot's?

      Happy new year.

I did try and scan those photos in for you a while back but the scanner I have access to at home is rubbish and they'd be no good to you at all, I forgot about it after that, sorry.

In case anybody else can help the info is in this book,

Dude!! I am extremely disappointed that you didn't follow-up on those scans. Please try again anyway.

One minor problem. I can't even remember what the scans were going to be of.

Kit, I still have some new connectors if you need then, they don't need the pink insert, you just remove the metal pin from yours and plug them in. I don't have the boots, but yours will fit.

PM me your address and I'll put 5 in the post

Andy that's a very kind offer mate. However I've found a solution at home, I forgot about the box of electrical connectors I've cut off the looms of various scrap VAG cars over the years. Found half a dozen of the correct type of two pin connector, five of which aren't at all brittle as they haven't been baked on top of the engine. They came apart without even threatening to brake so I now have all the bit's I need to fix this sat on the bench, nice simple New years day job

Thanks Andy10V and Tonks for the links

Dave it was photo's of early VW 16 valve engines you were after for your history of the 20VT, I'll see what I can do.

                    Yes please.

(And thanks for reminding me that I need to get back on that project )

Good luck with your injector pin swap.

Not sure if this AAN injector wiring post will help you or not:

Found a mate who does design work with a decent scanner, we'll get it done this weekend, sorry it's taken so long. If you come across a copy of that book cheap you'd probably find a lot of useful info regarding the development of the sporty VW's from the late 70's and 80's.

Spent a couple of hours this afternoon repairing the injector connector's and re-sleeving the bit's of loom running too the injectors with black heat shrink as the old stuff was very brittle and split in many places, thankfully the wires themselves are all in good condition, I only had to repair two tiny splits in the insulation with heat shrink. The pink plastic housings I robbed from the old connectors worked a treat, all went back together nicely along with much better replacement rubber boots. Sorted, misfire gone and I'm sure the car now idles as well as drives smoother than it's ever done.
