Help with porche 996 turbo clutch

The clutch in my mates 996 turbo has gone. If anyone has any help to give I would appreciate it. The car has done 90k and has been well looked after.
The kind of info I am looking for is where is the best place to scorch a clutch, and is it an engine out job, or is it possible to take the gear box out.
Any help would be much appreciated.

There are plenty of places to get them from, Nineexcellence by Gatwick are good guys.

As for changing it, yes just box alone comes out. The bell housing only has 4 bolts, check the slave cylinder and pressure sphere (very similar to the ur brake sphere) for the power assisted clutch.

To check the slave make sure no pentozine is spilling out from the reservoir in the scuttle area, if it is firstly mop it up it eats rubber.. Secondly get a new slave as the seals are leaking pressurising the reservoir.

To check sphere press the peddle 20 times once switched off the peddle shouldn't go hard prior to 20 depressions.

Once box is removed do the normal checks on the dual mass flywheel and check the crank rear seal, given the block is in two halves any slight misalignment results in (RMS Porsche talk...) the rear seal leaking prematurely.

The hardest part is joining the release bearing to the fork.... You have to tape the bearing to the clutch forks, put the gearbox back and then push the rod of the fork through to grab hold of the bearing..... Not a nice job....

Other than that it's quite straight forward, just get the car high enough of the ground so your not struggling lying on your back...

      Hope it helps

      Darren.
