It is recommended to get ARP bolts if you're gonna have the head off

I got my timing kit including a few bolts, bottom crank pulley, idler pulley, belt, water pump incl seal, a few bolts etc from Pete Reeve (Quattro Corner).

I'm sure Pete also has any gaskets you may require.

You can check for tools at Pete as well

IIRC you require VAG-2084 as per link of S2 Central below, mine is an ABY so the tools used are different. Go for a metal type headgasket if you're getting it done as 3B came with paper headgasket I believe.

Link for the crank bolt tool...you might need VAG Tool 2079 too unless you have a heavy duty torque wrench ( or a regular one with a big breaker bar )

Get the head rebuild if you get it down. You need face milling anyway and it is a great moment to change that valve seals and guides. If you want to do it as it should be done.
New crank sproket needed for safety.Inspect it for cracks at the 4 bolts and crack at the key but does not worth not changing it.It is like sparkplugs...have 20 of them in a box?NEVER get one in an engine, you will never know if one was dropped and when the end will fall into the cilynder..

heres a link for the VAG2079 tool to boost the torque of an ordinary wrench...but it is expensive ! Search on here and other Audi sites for ideas as to how to tighten up without it

By the way, whatever you do, don't use an air wrench !! And search on this site for sales of hardened /uprated crank pulleys, theres a couple of guys selling them every so often , the OEM version is brittle and the locating key is prone to snapping, specially if you are not careful with the torque .

ARPs depend if you plan on taking the head off again then you can reuse them, or run mental boost.

Also you need to pull the cam cover to re torque ARPs after heat cycles, stock bolts you just fit them and leave them.

                            Sorry, I will try again.

I think the ARP head studs are only needed if you will take off the head again, as you can use them again, or if you are running high boost.

ARP head studs need to be tightened again a few times after the engine has been run.

The stock bolts you can only fit once, but you do not have to tighten them again.

Now i do the timming and stock rebuilt, and at end of year i do it. I buy some upgrades now for gt28 setup.
I think best mount ARP bolts, anyone have the correct reference?
