Fueling with engine running?

Strange thing happened today tried to put fuel in whilst engine still running😳 Car just chucked it back out, sure I've done it on the past is there some sort of device that's shuts the fuel tank off from the filler when engine running?

did a few with other cars but never had this isue....

There's nothing that prevents fueling with engine running. Sound like an issue with tank ventilation

Yep. Ventilation problem.

I fuel when engine running when cars off road during winter. Never had a problem.

Cheers thought I had fueled before and was OK tank does seem to build abnormal pressure sometimes will have to get it checked out

I always turn off the engine for any car, but that's just me being paranoid

Not sure why you'd do this in the UK but I used to do it all the time in canada, never had any issues! Would stick the pump on and get back in the warmth of the car.. what is it in the UK with all our pumps having the locking bit removed so you can't do that... I guess it must be against some stupid health and safety rule? 10's of thousands of miles covered in the US and never an issue
