What a shame to have a car burned out like that. I thought there should be some cloth attached to the underside of the rear seat to prevent this? Or is it on S2's only? It also might have been a type 44 but I do remember something like that on one of the cars I've owned.

How come or from what you have decided that there was wrong battery used ? ?

It also happened to a Romanian forum member, marius555, he just rebuilt his engine, also took care off all the problems of the car, this happened over a long period of time, drove the car for a few hundred km, didn't even finish the 1000 km engine braking period, and then the car burned because of the battery.... I felt so bad for him ...

Just to re-establish international diplomatic relations, do you have a photo of what should be / was over the oem battery when it left the factory ? Thanks.
Wasn't intentionally trying to be nasty. I might have been perturbed that someone didn't see that it was an S6Plus (or late run UrS6 with an S6plus speedo) - which I do not own. They might not have know that. I guess I need to add my C4 holdings list to my forum sig here.

All that said, I don't have an OEM battery photo (at least not handy). In the meantime, here is my 93 UrS4 and my old (sold) 98 C4 A6 avant with "proper" aftermarket replacement batteries (post orientation, vent and (+) post covers) (duct tape, optional).

Just bought a S6 and quickly lifted the rear seat to see the battery. It looks a brand new battery so I will be checking its height.
Many years ago I fitted rubber mat material over the terminals on my S2 Coupe for fear of it shorting out.

Good news: The battery is vented and the vent tube is place and taped so it goes through the drain grommet.

Better news: The "dog food/kibble" was actually something chocolat, like a dead chockie biscuit.

Ha. I just realized that I didn't know what was under the read seat bottom of my "new" 94 V8 S4 avant. So I had to check. (Philips screw driver, Philips screw with captured washer, 30 sec per side)

Good news - battery has a cover over the (+) post.

Bad news - I have no idea what the battery is. It's black, with a handle and a "magic eye" to check the electrolyte level. No way to add distilled water. Hmmm...

Worse news: There is some kind of dog food/kibble under the left side of the seat bottom. Might be the source of a funky smell?

I'm going to duct tape the top of the (+) post, then add the cover and duct tape it to the battery.

it's not my car. (I have 2 C4s but neither of them is an S6plus).

Just posting it up so people realize that you really do need to watch battery height and keep a cover on the (+) battery post.
Thanks for the tip David, will make sure to keep the cover on!
