    7A Timing Belt wear

Has anybody got any pictures of typical timing belt wear marks on a 7A belt? Recently replaced mine and wanted to make sure the belt wear is normal as it looks odd to me.
    Cheers

timing belts don't have "normal" wear. thats the reason why you can't say when its been changed on a car with no history.
just make shure that the waterpump and the idler have been replaced too, or at least make sure the bearings don't have any wear so they don't cause any editional stress to the belt.

It's more what it looks like on the outer edge of the belt, mine has a continuous line all the way around and I just wanted to see if anyone else had this as it seems to match up with a groove in the idler pulley (which I changed with the water pump and crank pulley) it's also exactly the same on my old belt

There is always (from ones I have seen/owned) a line from the idler pulley, idler has a groove in it, and that portion of the belt is untouched.

Check the belt cover is fitted correctly, if the spacer bushes are on backwards the belt will wear slightly against the cover - my car was like this when I got it

Cheers for that Andy, was the answer I was hoping for really, as for the belt cover Alex the top hat spacers are fitted with the wider rim towards the block, is that correct, thats how I found them when doing the belt change so that's how they went back on

They should be the other way - the large part faces out towards the cover

It's worth noting in general that the belts themselves rarely fail on their own, their Strong as ****.
It's usually an idler/water pump/pulley/cover issue that takes them out

As Mike says, flange out to the plastic cover.

Yup. This is your problem, you'll find the cover is rubbing on the outer edge of the belt
